The teaser for Kunal Kemmu‘s upcoming action-comedy VIBE dropped on August 21, 2026, and it immediately caught attention for its clever self-referential humor. The one-minute clip shows Kunal Kemmu and Sparsh Shrivastava as two ordinary friends who get kidnapped and forced into becoming unexpected spies. What makes the teaser stand out is how it openly acknowledges that these two are nowhere close to the larger-than-life spies Bollywood audiences have seen in films like Pathaan and Tiger.

The teaser opens with a tagline that sets the tone: “When the nation is under threat, heroes stand up from within, some heroes are born, some heroes are trained and some heroes are kidnapped”. Preity Zinta, playing a commanding officer, tells the duo that the country needs them. Kunal Kemmu‘s character Hardik responds with a line that has become the talk of the internet: “Aap log Pathaan, Tiger jaise agents ko bhejo na” (Please send agents like Pathaan and Tiger). This reference to Shah Rukh Khan‘s Pathaan and Salman Khan‘s Tiger franchises lands perfectly, establishing that VIBE exists in a world where these iconic spies are known entities.

The Reluctant Spy Comedy

Kunal Kemmu plays Hardik, while Sparsh Shrivastava (known for Laapataa Ladies) plays Bugs. Neither character is trained or willing to take on the mission. The teaser shows them going through clumsy training sequences, struggling with basic tasks that real spies would handle with ease.

The comedy reaches another level when Preity Zinta‘s character tells Kunal to toughen up and be a “soldier.” He fires back with, “Soldier kaise banunga, Bobby Deol hoon kya main?” (How will I become a soldier, am I Bobby Deol?). This is a clear nod to Bobby Deol‘s action film Soldier from 1998. The teaser ends with this joke, leaving viewers with a smile.

Fan Reactions Pour In

Social media users quickly shared their thoughts on the teaser. One fan wrote, “Kunal Kemmu is an excellent and highly talented actor/director. Big fan of Madgaon Express. It was the funniest movie I have watched in last decade. Pretty sure this is going to be a banger movie too!” Another commented, “Written and directed by Kunal Kemmu. Say less.” A third user called him the “META KING” and said, “As a fan, I approve.”

The teaser’s self-aware humor and Kunal Kemmu‘s comic timing have received widespread praise. The references to Pathaan, Tiger, and Soldier have struck a chord with audiences who enjoy Bollywood’s meta-humor trend.

VIBE is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and will hit theaters on September 18, 2026. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in India and other markets.

Kunal Kemmu also has Golmaal 5 in the pipeline, which stars Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, and Sharman Joshi, directed by Rohit Shetty.
