The summer of drama officially started when Love Island USA dropped its Season 8 premiere on Tuesday, June 2. The episode began with the usual flirting and coupling games but ended on a major cliffhanger. Host Ariana Madix introduced a game that forced every islander to choose between staying loyal or staying single, and the results left the villa in chaos.

Two bombshells walked in at the very end. Gabriel Vasconcelos and Kayda kissed multiple islanders and walked out with four people following them. The episode closed without showing where they went, but the preview for episode 2 showed Gabriel sipping champagne with two girls while Kayda took a guy to a private room.

The First Couples Formed

The premiere started with the five girls entering the villa first. Aniya Harvey, Beatriz Hatz, Trinity Tatum, Mackenzie “Kenzie” Annis, and Melanie Moreno shared champagne before the five guys arrived. The men were KC Chandler, Sean Reifel, Bryce Dettloff, Zach Georgiou, and Sincere Rhea.

The coupling followed a familiar format. Girls stood behind the doors of the guys they wanted. Trinity picked Bryce and they became a couple. Beatriz was the only girl behind Sean’s door. Kenzie stood behind Zach’s door. But trouble started when KC had no one waiting for him.

Sincere had two women behind his door, Aniya and Melanie. He chose Melanie, leaving Aniya single. KC and Aniya were then paired together as the leftover singles. The starting couples were:

  • Beatriz and Sean
  • Trinity and Bryce
  • Kenzie and Zach
  • Melanie and Sincere
  • Aniya and KC

The Game That Changed Everything

Ariana Madix returned later in the episode with a game that required each islander to make a tough choice. They had to stand on a green dot to show they were happy in their couple and not open to new people. Standing on a red dot meant they wanted to explore other connections.

The answers showed cracks in the new couples. Beatriz chose the red dot while Sean stayed on green. Zach picked red while Kenzie picked red as well, meaning both wanted out. Bryce and Trinity both picked red dots. Melanie and Sincere both picked green. Aniya and KC also both picked green.

Two Bombshells Walk In

Right after the islanders made their choices, Gabriel and Kayda entered the villa. Ariana explained that only islanders on red dots could be approached. Gabriel walked up to Beatriz and Trinity and kissed both. Kayda approached Zach and Bryce for kisses. Then the bombshells left the main villa area, taking the four red dot islanders with them.

The episode ended with Kenzie and Sean left single in the villa. Aniya and KC remained a couple, and Melanie and Sincere stayed together. Everyone else walked out with the new arrivals.

Gabriel Was Supposed To Be An Original Islander

Gabriel was announced as part of the original cast before the season started. But after Vasana Montgomery got removed from the show before filming began, producers changed his role. Vasana was cut after old videos of her saying a racial slur appeared online. Fans on Reddit had predicted this change days before the premiere aired.

The season now has 11 islanders instead of the usual 10 or 12. Gabriel and Kayda are the first bombshells of Season 8. New episodes drop daily on Peacock at 9 p.m. ET. Episode 2 airs on Wednesday, June 3.

Fan Reactions To The Premiere

Social media lit up after the episode ended. Many viewers were shocked that Beatriz left Sean so quickly. One fan wrote, “Sean did not see that coming at all. His face said everything.” Another viewer posted, “Four people leaving on day one? This season is already insane.”

The teaser for episode 2 showed Kenzie crying in a confessional. She said, “I feel like I just always pick cheaters.” Sean also spoke to the cameras, saying, “I thought we had good chemistry and everything seemed to be going well. Yeah, I didn’t see that coming at all.”

“The premiere ended with more questions than answers. Where did the bombshells take those islanders? Are we about to see the first dumping of the season in episode 2?”

What Happens Next

Episode 2 airs on Wednesday, June 2 at 9 p.m. ET on Peacock. The preview shows Gabriel in a hotel room with Beatriz and Trinity while Kayda enters a separate room with Bryce. Ariana says in the preview, “Choices have been made, and not everyone is still here.”

New episodes will stream daily during premiere week. After that, episodes come out every day except Wednesdays. Peacock is the only place to watch Love Island USA Season 8 in the United States. Viewers in the UK, Canada, and Australia can stream through ITVX, Crave, and 9Now respectively.
