What Happened in Magic Knight Rayearth Episode 1: Full Recap

Episode 1, titled “From Another World,” introduced the three main characters during a social studies field trip to Tokyo Tower. Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki and Fuu Hououji attend different schools but find themselves at the same landmark on the same day.

The three strangers exchange glances, and a mysterious voice calls out: “Save this world, legendary magic knights”. A blinding light pulls them out of Tokyo Tower and into Cephiro, a world on the brink of collapse.

The voice belongs to Princess Emeraude, the Pillar of Cephiro, who used her remaining power to summon the girls before she was fully cut off. In Cephiro, the trio meets Guru Clef, a mage who explains the crisis. High Priest Zagato has imprisoned Princess Emeraude, and without her prayers maintaining order, monsters are already appearing across the land.

Clef tells the girls they were summoned by Emeraude herself and cannot simply return home. The only way back is to become the Magic Knights, rescue the princess and restore balance to Cephiro.

Character Progress and Current Story Status After Episode 1

Hikaru Shidou reacts to the summoning with surprise and curiosity. She is the most open to the new world and shows a natural instinct to help others, which aligns with her role as the future leader of the Magic Knights. Her voice actor is Ayane Sakura, known for roles such as Ochaco Uraraka in My Hero Academia.

Umi Ryuuzaki is immediately focused on finding a way back to Tokyo. Her practical and somewhat guarded personality contrasts with Hikaru’s enthusiasm. Umi is voiced by Rumi Okubo.

Fuu Hououji stays measured and tries to understand the situation before reacting. She is the calm, analytical member of the group. Rie Takahashi voices Fuu, with notable past roles including Megumin in Konosuba.

Princess Emeraude, voiced by Saori Hayami, appears briefly through her summoning call. She is the Pillar whose prayers sustain Cephiro, and her imprisonment by Zagato has left the world vulnerable to chaos.

Guru Clef, voiced by Yuki Kaji, serves as the girls’ first guide in Cephiro. He explains the rules of the world, the nature of the Pillar system and the mission the Magic Knights must undertake.

High Priest Zagato, voiced by Yuki Ono, is the primary antagonist. He has taken Princess Emeraude captive and is the reason Cephiro is falling into disorder.

Mokona, voiced by Mika Kikuchi, is a small, fluffy creature who accompanies the Magic Knights. Mika Kikuchi returns to the role from the original 1990s anime.

What to Expect from Magic Knight Rayearth Episode 2

Episode 2 is expected to pick up where the first episode left off, with the girls beginning their training under Guru Clef and learning more about the magic of Cephiro. The second episode will likely show the trio receiving their first weapons and starting to understand what it means to be a Magic Knight.

The ending theme song, titled “Seira” and performed by Yurina Kawaguchi, is expected to be featured more prominently in the second episode. The opening theme, “Otome no Tsurugi” (A Young Girl’s Sword), is performed by Toaka.

Magic Knight Rayearth is directed by Yui Miura with animation by E&H Production. The original manga by CLAMP ran in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi from 1993 to 1996, and the first TV anime aired from 1994 to 1995.
