Manoj Muntashir, the dialogue writer of the 2023 film Adipurush, has openly admitted that the movie did not live up to expectations. He also requested people to stop comparing his film with the upcoming Ramayana movie starring Ranbir Kapoor.
The lyricist and poet spoke to the media recently and shared his honest thoughts about the backlash his film received. Muntashir, who wrote the dialogues for Om Raut’s Adipurush, said there is no shame in accepting that the film failed. He also praised Yash for his role as Ravana in the new Ramayana film and wished the team well.
The 2023 film Adipurush, starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, faced massive criticism from audiences and religious groups after its release. The dialogues, VFX, and storytelling were heavily trolled on social media. The film became one of the most controversial Bollywood releases in recent years.
Muntashir Says No Shame in Admitting Adipurush Failed
Muntashir made it clear that people should not compare the two films. He said the Ramayana is a sacred epic, and Adipurush could not match its level.
Addressing the ongoing comparisons, Muntashir stated:
“It is better not to compare Ramayana with Adipurush. There should be no shame in admitting that Adipurush couldn’t meet the expectations. People who are associated with the film made it with a lot of effort, but it was a failed attempt.”
The writer also shared that he is proud of the film’s music. He said the soundtrack of Adipurush became very popular among listeners. He even hoped that the music of the upcoming Ramayana would match or surpass Adipurush’s hit songs.
“I am very proud that Adipurush’s music has reached the people. The film’s music is a big hit. I hope that the music of Ramayana matches the music of Adipurush and goes beyond that.”
Muntashir Praises Yash’s Ravana in Upcoming Ramayana Film
Muntashir extended his best wishes to the team of the new Ramayana movie. He specifically praised Yash, the Kannada superstar who plays Ravana in the film.
“Yash is a very good actor, and there is no doubt in this. My best wishes will be for every film that will bring our story to the world stage. I have a lot of best wishes for Ramayana.”
The upcoming Ramayana is one of the most awaited Indian films. The movie is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and features a star-studded cast. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, and Yash appears as Ravana. The film also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana.

Muntashir has previously called Adipurush the “biggest mistake” of his life. In earlier interviews, he admitted that the dialogues he wrote were “bad” and that he is “ashamed” of them. He also said defending the film was an even bigger mistake.
In July 2026, just weeks before his latest statement, Muntashir had openly apologised for the film. He said:
“In the beginning, I was a bit dismissive. It took me two days to understand. Adipurush was the biggest mistake of my life and to defend that film was an even bigger mistake.”
He also revealed that his wife had warned him about the project from the very beginning. Despite the criticism, Muntashir has now chosen to accept the failure and move forward.
Ramayana: Part 1 Release Date and Cast Details
The upcoming Ramayana film is being made in two parts. Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release in theatres during Diwali 2026. Ramayana: Part 2 is expected to arrive during Diwali 2027.
The music for the film has been composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. This is the first time these two legendary composers are working together on an Indian film.
