What Happens in Episode 2 Resonance
The second episode of Season 2 jumps between two timelines. In the past, Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell) and Dr. Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto) travel to Santa Soledad, a small island in Chile, in 1957. They are tracking a Titan based on strange energy readings. In the present day, Cate Randa (Anna Sawai) deals with the immediate fallout from the attack by Titan X that happened at the end of the first episode.
The Village and the Great God of the Sea
The main storyline follows Shaw and Keiko as they arrive in the isolated village. Right from the start, the locals are hostile toward outsiders. They do not want the Monarch agents asking questions or poking around the coastline. Despite the danger, the pair discover that the villagers are hiding something big.
It turns out the villagers have formed a cult that worships the Titan living in the waters near their home. They call the massive creature The Great God of the Sea. This Titan is later confirmed to be Titan X, a bioluminescent monster that rises from the ocean depths.
The villagers invite Shaw and Keiko to an annual ceremony. The event has a dark, creepy feeling, almost like a sacrifice. This storyline pays homage to classic horror stories about isolated towns with dark secrets .
Lee and Keiko in Danger
During the ceremony, Lee and Keiko are drugged by the villagers. Right after they lose consciousness, Titan X attacks. The sequence is intense, showing the massive creature emerging from the sea while the cultists watch.
The episode explores how humans cope with the existence of Titans. Some people, like the villagers in Santa Soledad, choose to worship them as gods rather than fight them .
Cates Storyline in the Present
Back in the present timeline, Cate is dealing with a dangerous stowaway. This subplot adds tension to Monarch’s current mission. Anna Sawai continues to deliver a strong performance, showing Cates resilience as she faces threats from both humans and monsters .
