The latest episode of NCIS: Origins delivered major shocks on April 21, 2026. The show, which airs on CBS, is a prequel following a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs played by Austin Stowell. Episode 16, titled Who’s Gonna Drive You Home?, saw a Russian spy ring target the wife of a top Admiral. The episode also closed the door on Gibbs’ marriage to Diane.
The hour mixed high-stakes action with deep personal loss for the team at Camp Pendleton. Viewers saw how a simple security job turned into a fight to save an innocent woman’s life. At the same time, Gibbs had to face the truth about his relationship with his wife.
Miller Gets Stabbed and His Top Secret PDA Is Stolen
The case started when Agent Miller (Caleb Foote) was tricked by a woman outside a bar. She asked him for help, but then stabbed him in the side. Miller was rushed into surgery, but the damage was already done. The woman stole his PDA, which contained Admiral Cane‘s notes, classified ship movements, and secret missions.
Admiral Cane (Brian Letscher) was furious when he found out his secrets were in the wrong hands. The team worked fast to track down the woman. When they caught her, she said she was not a spy. She claimed her visa had run out, and she was looking for an American husband to get a green card. Agent Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) believed her story because it was too sad to be a lie.
The Real Target Was Always Mrs. Cane
The action grew more intense as the team protected the Cane family. A sniper took aim at them, and Gibbs asked Senator Hart to fly Mrs. Cane back to Washington, D.C., on a private jet for safety. But the danger followed her to the airfield.
The ending of the episode revealed that the aide to Mrs. Julia Cane (Alicia Coppola) was the mastermind. The aide had been stealing money from the family. She was afraid Mrs. Cane would find out, so she asked her boyfriend to kill her. The boyfriend was caught at the airfield before he could finish the job. Both the aide and her boyfriend were arrested. Miller was happy to get his PDA back and recover the files.
Gibbs’ Father Returns and Ends His Son’s Marriage
While the spy case was happening, Jackson Gibbs (Robert Taylor) showed up to see his son. He arrived during a difficult time for Gibbs and his wife Diane (Kathleen Kenny). Diane had moved to Los Angeles for work, and the long-distance marriage was failing.
Jackson sat down with Gibbs and told him the hard truth. He said that Gibbs did not love Diane the way a husband should love his wife. Jackson explained that Diane was not Shannon (Gibbs’ first wife who died) and never could be. He told Gibbs that if he was not going to truly love Diane, he needed to be a man and end it.
Gibbs listened to his father. He and Diane agreed to separate. Diane moved to Los Angeles full time. Gibbs stayed in their apartment. They remained married on paper, but the relationship was finished.

Gibbs Opens Up to Lala About His Feelings
The episode also focused on the bond between Gibbs and Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino). While watching Admiral Cane and his wife, Lala noticed how the couple still understood each other after 27 years. She asked Gibbs what their secret was.
Later, Jackson brought Gibbs a box of his old “rules.” Gibbs keeps these rules to guide his life. Diane had never seen the box. But Gibbs showed it to Lala without any hesitation. He let her see who he really was.
Jackson noticed this difference right away. He saw that Gibbs tells Lala everything. He allows Lala to know the real him. The show made it clear that Gibbs loves Lala more than he ever loved Diane, but he is too scared to act on it because he is afraid of losing another person he cares about.
