The soundtrack for Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters has made history by becoming the first 2025 soundtrack to enter the Billboard 200 at No. 8. It also outperformed global superstar group BTS on Spotifyโ€™s Global Daily Top Songs chart, marking a major milestone for a fictional K-pop project.

KPop Demon Hunters Soundtrack Breaks Records

The album earned 27,000 streaming equivalent album units, 3,000 physical sales, and 1,000 track equivalent units in its first week. This makes it the highest-debuting soundtrack of 2025 and the only one so far to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard 200.

The filmโ€™s music features fictional K-pop groups HUNTR/X (a girl group) and Saja Boys (a demon-themed boy group), with contributions from real-life artists like TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung. Songs like “Golden”, “Your Idol”, and “Soda Pop” have become instant hits.

On Spotifyโ€™s Global Daily Top Songs chart, “Golden” peaked at No. 7, while “Your Idol” reached No. 11. In the U.S., “Your Idol” climbed to No. 6, proving the soundtrackโ€™s worldwide appeal.

How the Soundtrack Surpassed BTS and Other K-Pop Giants

Before its Billboard success, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack competed directly with BTS on Spotify. It secured the No. 13 spot on the Global Spotify Chart, surpassing BTSโ€™s “Golden” (by Jungkook) in streams.

The album also outperformed real-life K-pop acts like TWICE and KATSEYE in daily Spotify streams. On June 22, the soundtrack hit 8.5 million streams in a single dayโ€”a 500% increase from its release day.

Fans have compared the fictional groups to real K-pop idols, with many demanding Netflix turn them into CGI idol groups with real-world concerts and merchandise.

“Netflix is sleeping on a gold mine, like they can turn them into a cg idol group, sell merch, create a serie, sell albums, EVERYTHING AND FOR THE SAJA BOYS AS WELL.” โ€“ @exomcr on X

Why the Soundtrack Stands Out

The music blends pop, hip-hop, and theatrical K-pop, with lyrics tied to the filmโ€™s story. “Golden” serves as a motivational anthem, while “Soda Pop” hides darker themes beneath its bubbly sound. “Your Idol” reflects the Saja Boys’ sinister charm, with lyrics about obsession and control.

A special TWICE version of “Takedown” became a viral TikTok dance challenge, boosting the soundtrackโ€™s popularity. The filmโ€™s voice cast includes Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, and TWICE members, while singers like EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Kevin Woo bring the songs to life.

Fan Reactions and Future Possibilities

Fans are pushing Netflix to expand the KPop Demon Hunters universe with sequels, spin-offs, and real-world music releases. The soundtrackโ€™s success proves that fictional K-pop acts can compete with real artists.
