The final two episodes of Outlast: The Jungle dropped on Netflix on June 17, 2026, and they delivered a finale filled with strategy, heartbreak, and a risky gamble that paid off big time. After 33 grueling days in the Panamanian jungle, only two contestants emerged victorious, splitting a massive $1 million prize. But the path to victory was anything but straightforward, as Team Alpha made a bold decision right before the finish line.

The reality survival series dropped 16 strangers into the harsh jungle with only basic supplies. Contestants had to rely on their wits and survival skills to endure the elements, working together in teams to claim the ultimate prize. Nikki Hru, a 28-year-old boxer from Los Angeles, and Maddy Jones, a 28-year-old photographer from West Virginia, ultimately claimed the victory as the sole remaining members of Team Alpha. Each walked away with $500,000.

How the Final Race Was Set Up

The finale was determined by a two-part challenge. In Episode 7, teams had to build a fire, ignite an arrow, and successfully hit a target. Team Bravo completed the task first, securing their spot in the finals. Team Alpha struggled initially when Leiya Pillitteri had trouble starting the fire, but with support from Nikki, they pulled through and eliminated Team Charlie from contention.

Showrunner Mike Odair described the season’s shift from Alaska to Panama as a game-changer: “This season felt like throwing gasoline on the format.” He added, “We traded the frozen isolation of Alaska for the heat and volatility of Panama, and everything changed: the survival, the strategy, and the social dynamics.”

Team Alpha’s Risky Decision Before the Finale

With only two teams left, Team Alpha faced a critical decision. They had to choose whether to keep Leiya, who had struggled under pressure in the previous challenge, or cut her loose. After careful consideration, Nikki and Maddy voted to eliminate Leiya on the final night. They believed her inability to stay calm could cost them the race.

This decision was both strategic and financial. By removing Leiya, any victory would now be split between only two people instead of three. While emotional, the move was calculated to give them the best chance at winning the million-dollar prize.

“Even though it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, what a freaking experience!” said Halle Cooley, another Team Alpha member who withdrew 26 days into the challenge.

Team Bravo’s Costly Navigation Mistake

The final race required both teams to follow a 20-kilometer trek through treacherous terrain nicknamed “The Devil’s Heart” by locals. They had to navigate using maps and compasses, retrieve a key from a waterfall, cross water using a kayak, and locate a locked chest on the beach.

Team Bravo, consisting of Abby Chu and Pharaoh Gayles, fell behind when Pharaoh made several costly navigation errors. Despite Abby urging him to check the map and compass, Pharaoh relied on his instincts, and the team got lost. This mistake ultimately cost them a shot at the $1 million prize.

Team Alpha maintained their focus, reached the jetty first, and paddled across the water well ahead of their rivals. In a moment of panic on the final beach, they briefly lost the key needed to open the treasure chest. They frantically searched and discovered it had dropped onto the sand underneath the chest itself.

The Winning Moment

After unlocking the chest, Nikki Hru and Maddy Jones lit the green flare inside and held it up in victory. Team Bravo arrived at the beach only to witness their defeat. A helicopter appeared overhead and dropped a bag of cash to the winners.

“It feels like a movie, and our lives have completely changed,” Nikki said in the episode. Maddy Jones reflected on their achievement: “For Nikki and I to be the first two females to win this challenge, like this is my sister. This is likeโ€”this is a person that I’ve suffered with. We have a bond that nobody else can fully understand.”

Nikki and Maddy each walked away with $500,000. The final shot showed the winners boarding the only available helicopter to leave the jungle. The season concluded with Team Alpha proving that sometimes the hardest decisions lead to the greatest rewards.
