Five New Actors Join ‘Bloodaxe’ Season 2

Prime Video announced five new cast members for the second season of Bloodaxe. Gard Løkke, known for Home for Christmas and The Trip to the Northern Lights, will join as a series regular. Melina Åkerman (Succedera Questa Notte, Granite Harbour), Kieran Bew (House of the Dragon, Beowulf), Sebastian Bull (2 Days, Azrael), and George Burgess (Beast, Spartacus: House of Ashur) will appear in recurring roles.

The second season has already started filming in Ireland, produced by MGM Television. This early production start shows Prime Video’s confidence in the series, which got renewed for a second season back in June 2026, months before the first episode airs.

What Is ‘Bloodaxe’ About?

Bloodaxe is an epic historical drama that follows the rise of Erik Bloodaxe, a famous Norse raider, and his wife Gunnhild. The show is set in a time when Norway was torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals. War looms over the kingdom, drawing in ruthless kings from other Scandinavian countries and even a powerful English ruler.

The first season will tell the story of Erik and Gunnhild’s fight for the throne of Norway. The series is described as a “thundering” and “magical” addition to the Norse saga.

Michael Hirst, who created the hit series Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla for Netflix, is behind this new project. He co-created Bloodaxe with his son Horatio Hirst, and they both serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers.

“It is a completely new world with a new story and is set 100 years later,” Michael Hirst said in a previous interview about the series. He described Erik as a “great warrior and an extremely brave young man”.

Bloodaxe is expected to premiere on Prime Video in early 2027. The exact release date has not been announced yet. The show will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
