Prime Video’s upcoming Viking drama Bloodaxe has brought in a familiar face from the world of Westeros. The streaming service confirmed that Kieran Bew, who plays Hugh Hammer in House of the Dragon, has joined the cast for the second season of the historical series. The announcement comes as production on Season 2 begins in Ireland, even before the first season has premiered.
The show, created by Vikings mastermind Michael Hirst and his son Horatio Hirst, tells the true story of Erik Bloodaxe, one of history’s most famous Norse raiders. Xavier Molyneux plays the lead role of Erik Bloodaxe, while Jessica Madsen from Bridgerton takes on the part of his wife Gunnhild, known as the Mother of Kings.
Five New Actors Join ‘Bloodaxe’ Season 2
Prime Video announced five new cast members for the second season of Bloodaxe. Gard Løkke, known for Home for Christmas and The Trip to the Northern Lights, will join as a series regular. Melina Åkerman (Succedera Questa Notte, Granite Harbour), Kieran Bew (House of the Dragon, Beowulf), Sebastian Bull (2 Days, Azrael), and George Burgess (Beast, Spartacus: House of Ashur) will appear in recurring roles.
The second season has already started filming in Ireland, produced by MGM Television. This early production start shows Prime Video’s confidence in the series, which got renewed for a second season back in June 2026, months before the first episode airs.

Bloodaxe is expected to premiere on Prime Video in early 2027. The exact release date has not been announced yet. The show will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
The series comes from MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, which has produced other hit shows like Wednesday, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Vikings: Valhalla.
