The Prison Break franchise is officially back from the dead. Hulu and Disney+ have released the first teaser for Prison Break: Black Creek, a brand new series set in the same universe as the iconic Fox drama. The teaser arrived on September 10, 2026, confirming that production has started. This time, the story flips the original formula completely. Instead of a man breaking his brother out of prison, the new show follows a woman who voluntarily enters one of America’s deadliest prisons.
What the First Teaser Shows
The teaser is short and mysterious, running about 20 seconds. It does not reveal any faces or major plot points. Instead, it focuses on setting a mood. The first clip shows a prison room with a metal nightstand pushed against the wall. The suggestion is that someone might be digging a tunnel on the other side. The second clip shows a woman pressing her hands against a window and tapping on the glass in desperation. Only her back is visible, and she appears to be wearing a uniform.
Disney+ Canada shared the teaser on X with a simple message: “Welcome to Black Creek Penitentiary. Prison Break: Black Creek is coming soon to #HuluOnDisneyPlusCA.” The official Instagram account for the show posted the same text, telling viewers to expect the series on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
The Cast of Prison Break Black Creek
The new series features an ensemble cast led by Emily Browning. Browning plays Cassidy, a former soldier who becomes a corrections officer. She is the central figure of the story. Alongside her, Drake Rodger plays Tommy, an inmate who has already spent ten years behind bars. Lukas Gage plays Jackson, a wealthy politician running his first campaign for Congress. Clayton Cardenas plays Michael “Ghost”, a particularly dangerous prisoner.
Other cast members include JR Bourne as Junior, a mentally unstable survivor of an escape that happened decades earlier. Georgie Flores plays Andrea, a cadet training alongside Cassidy. Myles Bullock plays Darius “Red” Lewis, another inmate trying to survive the power struggles inside the prison. Kelli Berglund also stars.
Recently added recurring cast members include Noah Emmerich, Catfish Jean, Augie Duke, Brad Beyer, Greg Vrotsos, Daniel David Stewart, and Michael Mosley. The large cast points to a series built to move quickly once filming gets underway.
The Story and How It Connects to the Original
Prison Break: Black Creek is not a reboot in the traditional sense. It is set in the same universe as the original show, but it tells a completely new story with new characters. The original series followed Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), an engineer who deliberately got himself sent to prison to break out his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). That story ran for five seasons on Fox, from 2005 to 2017.
The new series flips the concept. Instead of a man trying to break someone out, it follows a woman who willingly takes a job inside one of the deadliest prisons in America. Her goal is to prove how far she will go for someone she loves. The show has been described as much darker than the original. The original leads, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, are not part of the new cast. There is no indication they will appear.
Who Is Making the Show
Elgin James is the writer, showrunner, and executive producer of Prison Break: Black Creek. James is known for co-creating Mayans M.C. He will also direct the pilot episode. Paul Scheuring, who created the original Prison Break, returns as an executive producer. Other executive producers include Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz. The project comes from 20th Television and James’s Sierra Drive production banner.
Hulu gave the project a pilot order in 2024 and a full series order in fall 2025. The production start marks a major milestone for the franchise, which has been off screens since the 2017 revival season.

No premiere date has been announced yet. Hulu has only said the show is “coming soon.” The series will stream on Hulu in the United States. For international viewers, it will be available on Disney+. This includes markets like Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and India. In France, it will stream on Disney+, and in Sweden, it is expected on Disney+ as well. Based on the production timeline, some outlets suggest a possible 2027 release window, but this has not been confirmed by Hulu or Disney.
Prison Break: Black Creek marks the first new chapter in the franchise in nearly a decade. The original series remains a fan favorite, known for its gripping tension and complex character arcs. The new show aims to keep that prison-drama DNA while telling a story that stands on its own.
