The fifth episode of Silo Season 3 has arrived on Apple TV+, and it finally delivers the answers viewers have been waiting for since the season premiere. Titled “Memory,” the episode aired on July 31, 2026, and marks a turning point for the series.
Rebecca Ferguson returns as Juliette Nichols, who has been struggling with memory loss after her return to Silo 18. The episode reveals how Robert Sims (played by Common) secretly saved both Juliette and Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) from certain death, working behind his wife Camille’s back to keep them alive.
Bernard’s Survival Finally Explained
The episode opens with a flashback to the fire in the airlock, showing exactly what happened after the Season 2 finale. Bernard survived the fire, but Sims initially appeared ready to kill him. He placed plastic around Bernard’s face, creating the illusion of death.
However, Sims had second thoughts. Bernard told him about the Safeguard Protocol, and Sims realized keeping Bernard alive was more valuable than killing him. With help from Walker and Carla, Sims hid Bernard in the Digger Void and made everyone believe he had died.
The deception was necessary. As Sims explained, everyone including the system controlling the silo needed to believe Bernard was dead. Keeping him alive gave the resistance someone who understood the Order and the Safeguard system.
Bernard and Sims share one of the episode’s most important conversations. Bernard admits he underestimated Sims and finally recognizes his leadership. Sims spent years seeking Bernard’s approval, so the acknowledgement carries considerable weight. Their relationship now looks very different. Bernard no longer holds complete authority, while Sims has started making decisions based on what he believes will protect his family and the silo.
How Juliette Got Her Memory Back
Juliette has been suffering from memory loss caused by drugs secretly given to her. Camille Sims was ordered by the Algorithm to drug Juliette with memory-wiping pills and replace her memories with whatever Camille told her instead.
In Episode 5, Sims took Juliette to Walker’s to study relics that might bring her memories back. Martha, Kennedy, Lukas and Regina were all present. Each artifact they tried failed to work.
Sims suspected George’s watch might do the trick, as it was an important artifact given to Juliette by Hank’s late father. Hank stepped in and gave her George’s watch along with a message from her late father about continuing to fight. But all their efforts were in vain.
The breakthrough came when Sims returned George’s PEZ dispenser to Juliette. The unlikely relic triggered her memory. She remembered everything about her conversation with Solo and the Safeguard Protocol. She also remembered that the poison pipe is located at Level 14, the headquarters of the Judicial Department.
The Pez dispenser connected to George Wilkins triggers a rush of memories. She remembers the tunnel leading towards Silo 17, the digging machine below the silo, and the Safeguard system. The Safeguard can release poison through a pipe and kill everyone inside a silo.

A New Crisis Threatens Silo 18
While Juliette’s memory recovery is the main focus, Episode 5 also reveals another danger facing the silo. Sheriff Paul Billings discovers that essential supplies are running dangerously low.
The Head of Supply, Marta McLain, tells Billings that the sector has been suffering from theft for years in Critical Supply. Among the missing items are light bulbs, which Supply doesn’t have the tech to make more of. The silo will likely run out of them in about two years. When that happens, the silo’s entire food supply will slowly diminish, leaving its inhabitants to starve to death.
Orla Kent, the shadow to the Head of Supply, tried to raise awareness of the thievery and set about investigating it herself. By Episode 2, she had vanished, and her body was discovered in the mines in Episode 3. Episode 5 reveals that Carla was indirectly involved in Orla’s death.
The Before Times Storyline Continues
Episode 5 briefly returns to the Before Times storyline. Daniel tells Helen that Sam gave him crucial information about Per Stensen, a billionaire and militant AI advocate who was likely involved in the Iran mission.
As Daniel and Helen head to meet a source with information about Per, their car is hijacked and begins driving itself. Daniel asks Helen: “Who’s the number-one advocate for AI control, who also happens to fund the clinic where my sister’s trying to rebuild her memory?” The car swerves and begins driving itself before he can finish.
Per Stensen is played by Colin Hanks. A promo before Season 3 mentioned him as a billionaire who purchased a large parcel of land in Georgia. The implication is that he could be a figure behind the curtain, pulling the strings.

Episode 5 changes the direction of the season by bringing Juliette, Bernard, Sims and the resistance closer together. Juliette has recovered the memory they desperately needed, but disabling the Safeguard will require them to work without alerting the system.
Bernard’s survival creates new possibilities. He knows how the Order operates, while Juliette understands the machinery beneath the silo. Sims can help them move without drawing attention. The remaining episodes will likely focus on their attempt to block the poison pipe and protect Silo 18.
The episode spends more time inside the silo than any other episode this season, largely setting aside the Before Times story for a single scene near the end. This focus on the silo allows the show to resolve Juliette’s amnesia arc, clarify how Bernard survived, establish Sims as an unexpected ally, highlight the silo’s finite resources crisis, and advance the Safeguard plot.
Season 3 of Silo consists of 10 episodes, with new episodes releasing weekly on Fridays. Episode 6, titled “The Drive,” is scheduled to arrive on August 7, 2026. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season, which will serve as the final chapter of the series.
