The film Dark Nuns has made a strong debut, achieving top rankings in both the Korean and Indonesian box offices during its opening week. The movie tells a story of individuals performing a forbidden ritual to save a boy believed to be possessed by a powerful evil spirit.

Box Office Performance

In Korea, “Dark Nuns” attracted 160,000 viewers on its opening day and maintained its top spot for three consecutive days. The film reached 600,000 viewers within three days of release, contributing to the growth of the domestic box office.

The film’s performance in Indonesia was even more remarkable. It drew approximately 310,000 viewers during its first week, marking the best opening for any Korean film in the country. It also held the number one position at the Indonesian box office for three consecutive days.

Story and Audience Reception

The movie has received praise for its intense drama and the characters’ desperate efforts to save the possessed boy. The film’s emotionally charged storyline has generated positive word-of-mouth across various age groups.

Viewers have particularly commended the performances of the cast, especially Song Hye Kyo and Jeon Yeo Bin, as well as Moon Woo Jin and Kim Gook Hee. Some audience comments include:

“The acting was so chillingly good… it’s not just another exorcism occult film. The message of people trying to save lives really resonated” (Naver_ly**).

“Song Hye Kyo overwhelmed with her gaze and expressions—her acting is insane! Jeon Yeo Bin’s performance was also excellent. I cried with Michaela in the last scene” (Megabox_ch**).

“Moon Woo Jin’s acting was unsettling. I always thought Jeon Yeo Bin was a good actress, but she has grown to the point where she can transcend genres. Of course, Song Hye Kyo was the best. Kim Gook Hee’s performance was also great” (Megabox_최**).

The Lunar New Year holiday, which began on January 27, is expected to further boost the film’s performance in Korea.
