Sony Pictures brought major surprises to CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, showing exclusive footage from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The crowd inside The Colosseum at Caesars Palace got a first look at Tom Holland back as Peter Parker. But things are not the same for the friendly neighborhood hero.
The new movie picks up after the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Doctor Strange’s memory spell made everyone forget Peter Parker exists. His girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) have no idea who he is. The CinemaCon footage shows exactly how painful this new reality has become for Peter.
Peter Parker Uses a Fake Name ‘Maynard’ at College Party
The exclusive clip shown at CinemaCon takes place at a house party. Peter follows Ned to the gathering and walks into a room where Ned has turned into a Spider-Man detective. Ned created a “Spidey tracker app” that people use to report sightings of the webslinger. He even has two suspects for Spider-Man’s secret identity. He thinks it could be their former science teacher Roger Harrington or their classmate Flash Thompson.
Peter watches all this without saying who he really is. When MJ arrives at the party, she bumps into Peter. He quickly introduces himself as “Maynard,” saying he is just a neighbor from across the hall. MJ calls him a friendly neighbor, which makes Peter choke on his drink. The moment is awkward and sad because MJ has no memory of their relationship.
Tom Holland appeared through a video message at CinemaCon to talk about the movie. He told the audience that this is the most emotional Spider-Man film yet.

The actor also reminded everyone that Peter had to make a big sacrifice. He gave up his identity to save his friends and the entire multiverse from collapsing.
MJ Shares a Kiss With New Character Played by Eman Esfandi
The CinemaCon footage did not stop at just an awkward introduction. Things got worse for Peter. MJ walks up to Ned and tells him she turned down a job offer. She says, “Something is just telling me that I’m supposed to be waiting for something great.”
Then Eman Esfandi appears on screen. Esfandi is known for playing Ezra Bridger in the Star Wars series Ahsoka. His character walks up to MJ, tells her “You can’t save everyone,” and then shares a kiss with her. Peter watches the entire thing from across the room. The look on his face shows how much pain he is feeling. He cannot do anything because MJ does not remember him at all.
The footage made it clear that MJ has moved on with a new boyfriend. Peter has to stand there and watch someone else be with the woman he loves. Sony CEO Tom Rothman told the CinemaCon crowd that Holland gave his finest performance yet in this film.
The movie takes place four years after the events of No Way Home. The official synopsis says Peter now lives “entirely alone” and works as a “full-time Spider-Man” protecting New York. But the synopsis also warns that the demands of the job spark a “surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence.” A new pattern of crimes also brings one of the most powerful threats Peter has ever faced.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is coming to theaters on July 31, 2026. The movie will release in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, and other global markets on the same date. Fans in India can expect English shows with local language subtitles in major cities.
The cast brings back familiar faces and adds new ones. Zendaya returns as MJ, and Jacob Batalon is back as Ned Leeds. New additions include Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Sadie Sink in an unknown role, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando returning as Scorpion. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, took over as director for this fourth Spider-Man movie.
Sony also dropped two new teaser posters at CinemaCon. The posters show a close-up of Spider-Man’s mask with MJ’s reflection visible in one of his eyes. The image captures the emotional weight of the story. Peter can see MJ, but she cannot see him for who he really is.
The movie’s official logline reads, “Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city- a full-time Spider-Man.”
Fans online have already started reacting to the news from CinemaCon. Many feel bad for Peter having to watch MJ with someone else. Others are excited to see Eman Esfandi join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day already broke records when it first came out. The CinemaCon footage has only made people more eager to see the full movie this summer.
