Washington Commanders wide receiver Stefon Diggs has formally denied allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted a male accuser, instead claiming the man fabricated the story after being caught trying to steal clothing from his home. The denial came in a new court filing submitted in late October 2026, marking the latest chapter in a bitter legal back-and-forth that has stretched on for more than a year.

The accuser, stylist and social media influencer Christopher Blake Griffith, says Diggs drugged him with laced candy and made unwanted sexual advances at Diggs’ Rockville, Maryland home in May 2023. Griffith also claims Diggs arranged for a group of men, including his brother Darez Diggs, to attack him about a week later after he rejected the advances. Griffith says more than $100,000 worth of his personal belongings were stolen during that incident.

Diggs has denied every part of that account. In the new filing, his attorneys say Griffith is lying “because he got caught stealing” and that Diggs cut off contact with Griffith after discovering him trying to take clothing from his home.

What Griffith Claims Happened

Griffith says he and Diggs were friends and that Diggs flew him out to Maryland for a celebrity basketball game in May 2023. According to Griffith’s counterclaims, Diggs gave him laced candy, made sexual advances that Griffith refused, and then arranged for associates to physically attack him roughly a week later as payback.

Griffith’s team has turned over more than 100 pages of text messages and social media conversations to the court, which they say support his version of events. The contents of those messages have not been made public.

Diggs’ Side: The Theft Claim

Diggs’ legal team tells a different story. In the filing, Diggs denies making any unwanted advances and denies having anything to do with an attack on Griffith. Instead, Diggs says he ended the friendship after catching Griffith trying to steal clothing from his home.

The dispute over what really happened that weekend has turned into a drawn-out discovery battle, with both sides demanding evidence from the other. Griffith’s lawyers have pushed Diggs to provide a full account of his relationship with Griffith, and a federal judge rejected Diggs’ attempt to describe Griffith simply as an “acquaintance”.

The Social Media Post at the Center of the Fight

The legal fight began on October 1, 2025, when Diggs filed a defamation lawsuit against Griffith, claiming the assault allegations were made up to build an online following and had damaged Diggs’ reputation.

Griffith countersued, arguing that Diggs defamed him through an Instagram post made after the lawsuit went public. In that post, Diggs wrote: “Lying on my name because he got caught stealing.” He added: “At the end when I prove this n**** a liar and a bitch ass n****, then what?”.

Griffith’s side says that post was defamatory. Diggs’ new filing argues that his statements were true and that he cannot be held legally responsible for telling the truth.

Attorney Says Filing Is a Routine Denial

Diggs’ attorney Mitch Schuster described the latest filing as a standard response to Griffith’s claims and welcomed the court’s decision to keep the case in its current venue.

“The latest filing is a routine answer to Mr. Griffith’s allegations, and operates to deny any and all liability, as Mr. Diggs has done throughout the entirety of this case. Additionally, we are pleased with the Court’s latest decision denying Mr. Griffith’s motion to transfer venue. Mr. Diggs looks forward to presenting his defamation claims to a jury and remains confident that truth and justice will prevail.”

Griffith’s attorney, Jake Lebowitz, has previously defended his client, saying Griffith looks forward to showing in court that he is “the victim of Mr. Diggs’ unwanted sexual advances and his brother’s violent attacks”.

A Separate Lawsuit Involving Diggs’ Brother

Griffith also filed a separate $10 million lawsuit against Darez Diggs over the alleged attack. That case was settled in July 2026 for an undisclosed amount, and the terms of the deal have not been made public.

The settlement does not affect the core case between Stefon Diggs and Griffith, which remains active.

Diggs’ Other Legal Troubles

The defamation battle is not the only legal matter Diggs has faced. In May 2026, he was found not guilty of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges involving his former personal chef, Jamila Adams. The NFL subsequently closed its investigation into the matter, citing insufficient evidence of a personal-conduct policy violation.

Diggs is also involved in a separate lawsuit filed by former college teammate and personal assistant Nigel King in February 2026. That case involves defamation and conspiracy claims, though Diggs is not personally accused of attacking King.

What the Case Means for Diggs on the Field

Diggs joined the Commanders on a one-year contract worth $12 million. His play has remained a topic of conversation around the league, with Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer recently suggesting the Kansas City Chiefs could explore a trade for the veteran receiver before the November 10 deadline.
