The Big Bang Theory universe is getting a new addition this summer. A spinoff series called Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will start streaming on HBO Max in July 2026. The show brings back fan favorite side characters from the original series. Kevin Sussman returns as comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, and he now takes the lead role. The announcement came during a panel at the CCXP Mexico City fan convention, where the cast shared first look images and new details about the show.

What Is the Show About?

The story follows Stuart after he makes a very big mistake. He breaks a device that Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter built together. This accident causes something called a multiverse Armageddon, which means reality starts falling apart. Now Stuart must fix everything and restore normal life. He does not do this alone. His girlfriend Denise, played by Lauren Lapkus, joins him on this mission. His geologist friend Bert, played by Brian Posehn, and the annoying quantum physicist Barry Kripke, played by John Ross Bowie, also help him.

The show promises many funny moments because Stuart is not a natural leader. Brian Posehn told fans at the Mexico City panel that the fun comes from watching Stuart fail every week. Kevin Sussman also admitted that his character takes on a leadership role but said, “He’s not very good at it.” The actor added about his onscreen counterpart, “I do my best, but really, I’m way out of my comfort zone.”
