Apple TV+ has set August 5, 2026 as the premiere date for Ted Lasso Season 4. The new season brings back Jason Sudeikis as the optimistic American coach, but this time he faces a different challenge. Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second division women’s football team. The 10-episode season will release new episodes every Wednesday through October 7, 2026.
The first teaser trailer arrived on April 28, 2026, showing Ted getting back into the London life alongside glimpses of returning and new cast members. The teaser uses “Rubber Band Man” by Mumford & Sons and Hozier as the soundtrack.
One Beloved Character’s Return Is Still a Mystery
The big question on everyone’s mind centers on Phil Dunster and his character Jamie Tartt. The former AFC Richmond striker became a fan favorite over three seasons, transforming from an arrogant young player into a mature teammate. But Dunster has not been confirmed as part of the Season 4 cast.
The Hollywood Reporter previously stated that Dunster would not return due to scheduling conflicts. He has been busy filming for HBO’s Rootser. Yet fans remain hopeful. Some believe he could still show up in a smaller role.
Fans Are Holding Onto Hope for a Jamie Tartt Appearance
On Reddit, viewers have been sharing their theories about how Jamie Tartt might fit into the new season. One person wrote:
I guarantee he will appear, even if it is just a cameo in one episode
Another fan pointed to evidence that suggests Dunster might have been around during filming:
I’m like 90% sure someone caught pics of him with his whispy chestnut or whatever colored hair briefly around the time this was filming, I’d be shocked if he made no appearance
Dunster’s wife, Eleanor Heydon, directed an episode of Season 4. This explains why he was seen near the production set. But fans are choosing to see this as a positive sign rather than a simple explanation.
What Dunster Said About Coming Back
In a recent interview with People magazine, Phil Dunster gave a teasing response when asked about his return. He simply said “Yes. Maybe. Maybe”.
He did not confirm anything. But he also did not shut down the possibility. That small word “maybe” has kept the speculation alive across social media platforms.
One Reddit user proposed a smart way to bring Jamie back:
I kind of feel like I would rather see the entire original team in one episode as a collective cameo versus seeing one or a few here or there. That way they can get Tart in that episode smoothly since apparently he wasn’t really able to film due to conflicts but maybe he had time to do 1 episode. That would be epic. I can see it nowโฆ the girls team is having a hard time. Ted tells them he has a surprise for them to get motivated and then they meet and play the original team and make the whole episode about that
Who Is Coming Back for Ted Lasso Season 4
Several familiar faces are returning as series regulars. Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Brendan Hunt (Coach Willis Beard), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) are all confirmed to return.
New cast members joining the show include Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education), Jude Mack, Faye Marsay (Adolescence), Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely.
The teaser also showed Andrea Anders as Ted’s ex-wife Michelle, Matteo van der Grijn as Matthijs (the Dutchman Rebecca liked in season three), and Tracey Ullman in an unknown guest role.
What the New Season Is About
Season 3 ended with Ted going back to America to coach his son’s team. Season 4 brings him back to London. The official logline states: “In season four, Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
The trailer hints at some pushback Ted receives. In one scene, someone calls him a “wanker” for coaching a women’s team.
