The fifth episode of AMC’s tech drama The Audacity shows Duncan Park hitting complete rock bottom. After spending the whole series manipulating and blackmailing everyone around him, Duncan finally faces the consequences. His business deal falls apart, his allies turn against him one by one, and his wife drops a bombshell he never saw coming. Episode 5, titled “Lamplighters,” aired on May 3, 2026 for AMC+ subscribers and will have its TV broadcast on AMC on May 10, 2026 at 9:00 PM ET/PT. The episode packs in betrayals, breakdowns, and a divorce request that changes everything.

Anushka Destroys Duncan’s Big Deal To Save Her Own Job

The episode kicks off with Carl Bardolph (Zach Galifianakis) visiting the Hypergnosis offices. Duncan (Billy Magnussen) is trying to convince Carl to put $300 million into his company. But right in the middle of their meeting, journalist Nena Marx drops a bombshell report. The news reveals that Hypergnosis’s failed merger with Cupertino was a fake deal that Duncan used to pump up his company’s stock price.

Duncan has no idea who leaked the information. But viewers learn it was Anushka (Meaghan Rath) who tipped off Nena. Her reputation at Cupertino took a hit because of Duncan’s earlier lies, so she decided to burn him to protect herself. The stock starts falling immediately. Carl sees this as his chance. Instead of investing, he uses his money to buy a 20.9% stake in Hypergnosis. That gives him more power than Duncan, who only owns 20% of his own company.

Duncan is humiliated in front of everyone. He runs away and hides at his dead friend Hamish’s house, which is like a locked-down bunker. But the place has no microwave and no phone signal. He cannot even order food online.

JoAnne Gets A Strange Offer While Her Son Falls For Manosphere Content

JoAnne (Sarah Goldberg) is dealing with her own problems. She has to find a new house because her current place is being sold. She meets up with an old college friend who works in real estate. They get high together and look at properties. Her friend, who survived cancer, tells JoAnne to focus on enjoying life instead of always working so hard.

At the same time, JoAnne’s son Orson has fallen down a rabbit hole of manosphere podcasts. These shows tell him he needs to change himself to get female attention. His weird nutritionist gave him some expensive drops that seem to have fixed his stomach issues. When JoAnne says it is good he took his antibiotics, Orson snaps back at her. He reveals where the drops came from, which starts a big fight between JoAnne and Gary.

The family looks at a country house that JoAnne and Gary love. But Orson gets so angry about the possible move that he almost calls his own mother a terrible name. The manosphere content has clearly changed how he thinks about women in charge.

Everyone Betrays Duncan One After Another

Duncan calls his old friend Gabe to rescue him. Gabe sends a helicopter to pick him up. But Gabe has become a weird doomsday prepper who lives on a private island. He talks about AI making all workers useless and how society will collapse. He is also “dopamine fasting,” which means he refuses to even shake Duncan’s hand.

While Duncan is there, Harper goes to Carl Bardolph. She offers to tell him where Duncan is hiding in exchange for more stock options. But that is not the worst betrayal. Gabe himself answers a call from Carl and Stan. He agrees to sell them his shares for 15% above market price just to spite Duncan.

Duncan is furious. He takes Carl’s helicopter and flies to JoAnne’s house. JoAnne is so scared when she sees him that she pulls out a gun. But Duncan has a laptop. He offers her $1.2 million in untraceable dark web money. This is payment for the tip she gave him about Orlando Lee getting pushed out of Smoke. He admits he should have bribed her instead of blackmailing her all along.

Anushka calls Duncan and tells him directly that she was the one who leaked the story to Nena. She says she is done with him for good. Later, she goes to Hypergnosis headquarters where Carl offers her the job of interim CEO. She says she will take it only if he commits to doing real good work with the algorithm.

Lili Drops The Divorce Bomb In The Final Moments

Throughout the episode, Lili has been looking for Duncan. She goes to Hamish’s house and finds a hidden key in the garden. Inside, she breaks down crying in what looks like Hamish’s bedroom. The show hints she might have had a past relationship with him.

Right at the end of the episode, Duncan shows up while Lili is on the phone with her lawyer. He starts going on about how she is his only real friend and the one person he can always count on. He calls her his truest ally. But Lili cuts him off mid-sentence and says the words that change everything: she wants a divorce.

Duncan has lost his business deal. He has lost his allies. He has lost Anushka. And now, he is about to lose his wife. The episode ends with Duncan standing there, probably realizing for the first time that he has pushed away every single person who ever mattered.
