The Terminal List Season 2 arrives on Prime Video on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, bringing Chris Pratt back as Navy SEAL Commander James Reece after a four-year break. The upcoming season adapts Jack Carr’s second novel, True Believer, and takes the story global. Before the new chapter begins, here is everything that happened in Season 1 that viewers need to remember.
The Syria Mission That Started Everything
Season 1 opened with James Reece leading Alpha Platoon on a covert mission in Syria. The team was tracking Iranian chemical weapons specialist Jahan Kahani as part of a task force called Odin’s Sword. An ambush turned the operation into a disaster. A dozen Navy SEALs were killed, and only Reece and Ernest “Boozer” Vickers survived after being extracted.
Reece returned home with severe headaches, memory problems, and conflicting memories of what happened. An NCIS interrogation suggested that the youngest squad member, Donny Mitchell, triggered a tripwire. A recording backed this account, but Reece remembered the incident differently.
RD-4895: The Drug Behind the Conspiracy
Reece teamed up with war journalist Katie Buranek to investigate why the mission went so wrong. Their search led them to RD-4895, an experimental drug from Nubellum Pharmaceuticals, a company under Capstone Industries.
The drug was designed to prevent PTSD by blocking how traumatic memories are stored in the brain. Instead, it gave the SEALs brain tumours, memory loss, and other serious effects. Senior military officials, including Admiral Gerald Pillar, Commander Bill Cox, and JAG Captain Howard, approved the testing without the soldiers’ consent. Capstone CEO Steve Horn had a financial reason to hide the failed trial because a successful drug could have increased the company’s value before a potential sale.
The Killings on Reece’s List
After his wife Lauren and daughter Lucy were murdered, Reece put together a terminal list of everyone he held responsible. He worked through the list one by one with help from Ben Edwards and pilot Liz Riley.
Josh Holder and another surviving assassin were killed. Capstone executives Saul Agnon and Steve Horn were next. Commander Cox drowned, and Captain Howard and Admiral Pillar died in a bombing tied to Reece’s campaign. Defence Secretary Lorraine Hartley, who signed off on the program, shot herself instead of facing justice.
The Betrayal That Shocked Everyone
The biggest reveal in Season 1 came when Katie Buranek traced payments from a shell company called Oberon Analytics. The money led back to Ben Edwards, Reece’s closest friend and a CIA operative. Reece learned that Edwards had been paid $20 million to leak bad intelligence and set up the ambush that killed Alpha Platoon.
Reece confronted Edwards on his boat. Edwards admitted that he knew the SEALs would die from their tumours anyway and thought dying in combat was better than wasting away. He insisted he had nothing to do with the murders of Reece’s wife and daughter. Reece shot him off-screen, completing his list. The gunshot was heard, but the moment was not shown on screen.
Why Taylor Kitsch Returns in Season 2
The Season 2 teaser trailer, released on August 20, 2026, surprised viewers by showing Taylor Kitsch back as Ben Edwards. Kitsch’s character was killed in the Season 1 finale, but he appears as a hallucination in Reece’s mind. The new season deals with Reece’s guilt and his brain tumour, which causes him to see his dead friend.
Chris Pratt explained the return to USA TODAY:
“People have to understand that ghosts or dead characters can appear in the narrative. So we’re dealing with a guy in Reece who’s literally having hallucinations and conflations. We’re tiptoeing to where it’s essentially memories from his life are crossing over to the present moment.”
New Faces Joining Season 2
Several actors from Season 1 are returning, including Constance Wu as Katie Buranek, Dar Salim as Mohammed Farooq, Luke Hemsworth as Jules Landry, and Tom Hopper as Raife Hastings.
New additions to the cast include Gabriel Luna as Freddy Strain, Olga Kurylenko, Costa Ronin, Yul Vazquez, Martin Sensmeier, Arnold Vosloo, Jeremy Bobb, and Shiraz Tzarfati.
What Season 2 Will Cover
Season 2 adapts True Believer, Jack Carr’s second novel. The story follows Reece on a journey of violent redemption as he finds a new purpose after finishing his list. A series of terrorist attacks pulls Reece out of his fugitive life. He is recruited to help stop a terrorist organization because of his connection to Mohammed “Mo” Farooq, a former Iraqi commando who appears to be involved.
The conspiracy reaches from Moscow to Langley and ties into Reece’s own family history. The season takes Reece across the Indian Ocean, Southern and Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
