Tom Ellis is officially coming back for Tell Me Lies Season 3. The actor confirmed his return as Oliver, the controversial professor, and shared exciting details about the upcoming season. Fans can expect more drama, toxicity, and surprising twists.

Ellis revealed he starts filming soon.

“Yes, I’m going back. I’m actually going there on Saturday to start shooting,” he said. He has already read the first four episodes and promised fans “will not be disappointed.” The new season will be “as dark, toxic, and funny as ever.”

Oliver’s character, who had an affair with Bree (Catherine Missal), will see some redemption. “I’ve got to be honest, the focus isn’t so much on my character this season, but it still plays very much into the Bree storyline,” Ellis added.

Season 2 ended with a shocking twist—Oliver’s wife Marianne (Gabriella Pession) knew about his affair. They were in an open relationship, but Oliver never told Bree. This left Bree heartbroken and questioning everything.

Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer, who is also Ellis’s wife, initially thought Oliver’s story was over. “I think we kind of learned that Oliver is so broken and hollow by the end of this season that I’m ready for Bree to be done with him,” she said earlier. But plans changed, and Oliver is returning.

Season 3 will shift more to the 2015 timeline, moving away from the college years in 2008. Oppenheimer hinted at this change, saying “there will probably be more 2015 than 2008.” This could mean more answers about Bree’s future, including the mystery phone call before her wedding.

Ellis previously called Oliver “despicable” and struggled to find redeeming qualities in him. “I found it really difficult to find redeeming features, because I don’t really think he has any,” he admitted. However, he teased “a lot of redeeming moments” for Oliver in Season 3.

The show also stars Grace Van Patten, Jackson White, Spencer House, and Sonia Mena. A new character, Alex (Costa D’Angelo), will join as a psychology grad student with a complicated past tied to Bree.

Tell Me Lies follows a toxic college relationship that affects everyone around it. The show is based on Carola Lovering’s novel and streams on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally.
