President Donald Trump repeated his praise for Sen. Jon Husted‘s backside in a TikTok video posted this week, calling it “a great a**” and “very powerful.” The remark came just days after his crude comment about rapper Nicki Minaj at a Michigan rally, and critics quickly piled on. Husted, an Ohio Republican in a tight Senate race, has joked about the attention. Trump claims the comments boosted Husted in the polls, but recent surveys show him trailing Democrat Sherrod Brown.
What Trump Said About Sen. Husted
Trump’s remarks about Husted’s physique have been repeated across multiple rallies this month. The first instance came at an Oct. 12 rally in Youngstown, Ohio, where Trump said he “started examining his body” after learning Husted was a college football player. “I looked at his a** and I looked at the whole — and then I looked at his hands,” Trump told the crowd. “Look at his hands. He’s got these, like, claws”.
The comment was repeated at an Oct. 17 rally in Kentucky and again at an Oct. 20 rally in Greenville, North Carolina, where Trump described Husted’s rear end as “like a pile of muscle”.
This week, the president moved the story from the rally stage to social media. A TikTok video, apparently recorded in the Oval Office, was posted on Wednesday, Oct. 28, ahead of his rally in Chillicothe, Ohio. In the clip, Trump said: “I told the people — they didn’t know this — he has a great a**, a very powerful a**. His shoulders, his hands, his arms, and you know what happened? He went up 12 points in the ratings”.
The video was shared widely online, including by Democratic commentator Harry Sisson, who reacted with disbelief.
“Once again MAGA, I am asking what is going on here. What is he doing? Why does he keep saying this stuff? He’s so crazy.” — Harry Sisson, in a video shared on Instagram
The Nicki Minaj Remark in Michigan
The Husted comments were still fresh when Trump brought up another backside at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, Oct. 25. While explaining that reports about his Husted remarks had missed the context of the senator’s football background, Trump turned his attention to Minaj, who had spoken at the event and was sitting in the audience.
“By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful a** before — Nicki Minaj. That’s hard to miss. Stand up.” — Donald Trump, at the Michigan rally
Minaj stood and waved as the crowd cheered. Trump then added, “I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki”. The moment drew heavy criticism online and in the media, with some commentators calling it demeaning and others questioning why the president kept returning to the topic of women’s and men’s bodies during a political campaign.
Online Backlash and Late-Night Mockery
Social media reaction to the Husted TikTok was sharp. Critics described the president’s comments as “deranged” and accused him of “thirsting over buttocks.” One X user wrote, “He sounds so aroused while describing this it’s disturbing,” while another asked, “How can his deteriorated brain not grasp how absolutely bizarre and cringeworthy this is?”.
Late-night host Seth Meyers took apart Trump’s claim that the comments had lifted Husted in the polls. Meyers noted that no poll showed a sudden 12-point swing and joked, “Do you think a candidate for U.S. Senate surged by 12 points in one day because the president said you could bounce a quarter off his a**?”.
CNN‘s Anderson Cooper ran a montage of Trump commenting on other men’s bodies, dubbing him “assman-in-chief” and ending with a quip: “As for Senator Husted, his a** may be hard, but his polling is soft”. Rolling Stone ran a headline calling the recent rallies “The Last Tour for Our Horny, Mad King”. A CNN analysis argued that Trump keeps returning to the topic by choice, rather than focusing on issues like gas prices or the Iran war.
How Jon Husted Responded
Husted, 59, has not shown anger about the comments. Appearing on Fox News on Saturday, Oct. 24, he was asked about Trump’s praise of his physique. Husted laughed it off and said the remark had motivated him to keep up his fitness routine.
“When I woke up the next morning after hearing that, I told my wife, I’m like, ‘Hey, I think I got to get down to the gym and keep up my reputation! So, I gotta keep working out.’” — Sen. Jon Husted, on Fox News
Husted added that his family is athletic — he played college football at the University of Dayton, and his wife runs marathons. At a campaign event on Tuesday, Oct. 27, he leaned into the attention again, telling supporters, “Don’t worry, I was in the weight room this morning working out” and “I don’t want to let him down”.
The Poll Numbers Trump Cites
Trump has claimed repeatedly that his comments helped Husted’s standing. On Oct. 20, he said the remarks had pushed Husted into a two-point lead. Five days later, in a Fox News interview, he said Husted “went up 14 points or something”. The TikTok video repeated the 12-point claim.
No public polling supports those numbers. A Marist University poll released Oct. 20 found Brown leading Husted 48% to 44% among likely voters. A Fox News survey conducted Oct. 15–19 showed Brown ahead 52% to 47%. A Suffolk University poll released Oct. 28 had Brown leading 47% to 44%, and a Cook Political Report poll found Brown up 49% to 43% the same week. Decision Desk HQ gave Brown a 56% probability of winning the Nov. 3 election.
JD Vance Says He Is ‘Jealous’
Vice President JD Vance weighed in on the matter during a Fox News town hall on Thursday, Oct. 29. Asked by host Jesse Watters about Trump’s repeated praise for Husted’s backside, Vance laughed and said he wished the president would say the same about him.
“Well, first of all, I’m jealous. The president’s never said that about me. I gotta get back in the gym maybe and draw that particular piece of praise.” — JD Vance, on Fox News
Vance called the remark one of his “favorites” and said it showed Trump “doesn’t take himself so seriously”.

The Midterm Context
Husted is running against former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s Senate race, one of the contests shaping the Nov. 3, 2026 midterm elections. Trump has campaigned in Ohio three times in less than 30 days, with his most recent stop in Chillicothe on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The president’s remarks about Husted and Minaj have become a regular feature of his rally speeches in the final stretch of the campaign, drawing attention away from policy issues and toward his comments about people’s bodies.
