A new teaser for the upcoming Netflix series As You Stood By reveals a dark story of friendship pushed to the brink. The thriller shows two women, played by Jeon So Nee and Lee Yoo Mi, making a desperate pact to kill an abusive husband. The series is set to start streaming on November 7, 2025.

The Story of Desperation

The plot of “As You Stood By” centers on two best friends trapped in a brutal reality. Eun-su (Jeon So Nee) works at a luxury department store but is haunted by childhood trauma after witnessing her father’s violence against her mother. Her best friend, Hui-su (Lee Yoo Mi), is a once-promising children’s book author now trapped in a suffocating and abusive marriage to her husband, Jin-pyo (Jang Seung Jo).

After seeing the wounds her best friend is suffering, Eun-su proposes a drastic way out. She suggests they kill Hui-su’s husband. This desperate choice sets the stage for a tense thriller that explores how far people will go to protect those they love.

“Let’s kill him. Your husband,” Eun-su says to Hui-su in the teaser, setting their dangerous plan in motion.

The series is based on Hideo Okuda’s 2014 Japanese novel “Naomi and Kanako.” It is directed by Lee Jeong-rim, who previously directed “VIP” and “The Revenant.”

A Look at the Key Characters

The newly released poster and teaser introduce the main characters and the tense relationships between them. At the center of the poster, Eun-su has a startled expression, while Hui-su is visibly marked with wounds, hinting at the pain she endures.

Jin-pyo, Hui-su’s husband, is a complex character. In public, he appears to be a caring husband, even giving Hui-su a necklace as a gift. Behind closed doors, however, he is menacing and controlling, using coercion to maintain his power.

Another key figure is Jin So-baek, played by Lee Moo Saeng. He is a mysterious shop owner whose true intentions are unclear. His presence near the two women adds another layer of suspense to the story.

The cast also includes Lee Ho-jung as Detective Noh Jin-young, who will be investigating the case as events spiral out of control.

A Deeper Meaning

While the story is a crime thriller, it tackles heavy themes like domestic abuse, trauma, and survival. The series asks a difficult question: can murder ever be justified?

Hui-su’s dialogue in the teaser highlights her feeling of being trapped: “I tried confronting him, tried running away, but I always end up right back here.” This shows that for these two women, killing seems like the only way to escape their unbearable situation.

The series had its world premiere at the 30th Busan International Film Festival on September 18, 2025, where the first two episodes were screened.

“Are you just going to put up with it and live?” This question, posed to Eun-su in the teaser, captures the core conflict of the series.
