The team behind The Boys is not slowing down even as the main show ends its run. Prime Video officially set a release window for the prequel series Vought Rising. The show will arrive in 2027, much earlier than many industry watchers expected.

Production on the series wrapped in March 2026. The post-production work, including visual effects, is moving fast. Eric Kripke, the creator of The Boys, shared updates about the show’s progress. He confirmed he has already seen cuts of the first seven episodes.

The quick turnaround to 2027 surprised many fans. The news came alongside the announcement that Gen V ended after two seasons. Amazon is not letting the franchise lose momentum. Vought Rising will fill the gap left by the main series conclusion.

1950s Setting And Dark Murder Mystery Story

Vought Rising takes the action back to the 1950s. The story is a twisted murder mystery set in New York City at the dawn of the superhero age. It focuses on the early days of the Vought corporation.

Eric Kripke described the tone of the show in simple terms. He called it “L.A. Confidential with superheroes,” adding that it will probably be even darker. The show will explore the toxic origins of the company. It looks at how propaganda and power shaped the first generation of Supes.

The plot follows a murder case that ties back to Vought’s secret plans. This is not a college comedy like Gen V. Instead, it focuses on the complicated history of the world’s most famous superhero company.

Jensen Ackles And Aya Cash Lead The Cast

Jensen Ackles returns as Soldier Boy. Aya Cash reprises her role as Stormfront, who in the 1950s went by the name Clara Vought. Ackles is excited about the project. He mentioned that the team plans for the show to run for multiple seasons.

The cast is growing with new names. Mason Dye joins as Bombsight. Will Hochman plays Torpedo, and Elizabeth Posey stars as Private Angel. James Wolk (Watchmen), Dylan Arnold (Lady in the Lake), Josh Randall (Station 19), and Chad Willett (Supernatural) also came on board in recurring roles.

“He’s the top dog. But you also get to see the experience as to why he ended up the way he did,” Jensen Ackles said about Soldier Boy’s role in the prequel. “We get to kind of peel back the layers of what truly happened in that time.”

Ackles revealed he agreed to return for the prequel almost immediately. He did not even let the team finish their full pitch before saying yes.

Production Timeline And Post-Production Work

Eric Kripke explained why the show is not releasing in late 2026. He said the team needs about eight months to complete the visual effects work. The episodes will not be fully finished until November or December 2026 at the earliest.

Amazon also needs time to localize the show for different markets around the world. This includes dubbing and subtitle work for global audiences. Because of these steps, the 2027 target is realistic.

Kripke confirmed the team is doing well.

“I’ve seen cuts through Episode 7, I think, at this point, and they’re good! It’s really coming together. I think people are gonna dig it,” Kripke said.

Connection To The Boys Final Season

The final season of The Boys premiered on April 8, 2026. The series finale is set for May 20, 2026. While the main story ends, the universe stays connected. Characters from Gen V appear in the final season of The Boys.

The creative team also plans to bring Vought Rising elements into the current timeline. The Gen V season 2 finale set up this integration. It showed supes recruited by Annie January (Erin Moriarty) for a resistance.

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg said in a joint statement.

What This Means For The Franchise

The cancellation of Gen V was a surprise for some viewers. However, Amazon is not abandoning the universe. Vought Rising is moving forward quickly. The show is expected to be the next big chapter in the Vought Cinematic Universe (VCU).

Jensen Ackles shared that the idea is to keep the story going past the first season. He wants to show Soldier Boy in his natural environment—the 1950s. The character felt like a “fish out of water” in the modern setting of The Boys. The prequel will fix that.

The release window is sooner than expected. Fans worried about a long gap after The Boys ends. But Vought Rising is on track to keep the bloody, chaotic energy alive.
