“The entire film, she’s (Ruth) saying something, and he responds just with this sort of arrogance that adults have towards their children. What she said since the beginning was right. She was right.”
Ruth, Jason’s daughter, spends the whole movie warning her father about the creatures. He ignores her at first. But in the final confrontation, he finally listens.
“And the decision, therefore, I think the decision was, of course, first of all, he’s not killing anyone. And secondly, he listened to her.”
Moura said this moment shows Jason putting aside his ego. The actor believes this is an important lesson for all parents.
“I was like, ‘Man, we really have to listen to everybody, but especially to our kids.’”
The creature responds to this kindness. It opens the door and lets the family walk free.

The final scene leaves things open for more story. The family sails away on a stolen boat. They send out a distress call. A stranger’s voice answers.
