The Netflix sci-fi thriller The Last House arrived on the streaming platform on August 7, 2026. The film follows a family trapped inside their Seattle home after a mysterious flood seals them in for years alongside ocean creatures.
While the movie takes place mostly in a single location, the physical demands on the cast were anything but easy. Wagner Moura, who plays father Jason Delgado, has called it the most physically challenging work of his career. This comes from an actor known for intense roles in Narcos, Elite Squad, and Civil War.
What Made ‘The Last House’ So Physically Demanding
Moura told Collider that filming the movie pushed him beyond anything he had experienced before.
“This was the most physically demanding thing I have ever done before, and I’ve done films like Elite Squad or Narcos, or even Civil War.”
The actor shared these thoughts during an interview with Collider’s Steven Weintraub. He admitted that when he first read the script, he did not expect the production to be so exhausting.
One of the biggest challenges came from the underwater sequences. Moura and his co-star Greta Lee had to film scenes while holding their breath in water. The cast trained with scuba diving professionals, survivalists, and specialists to prepare.
The production shot the film chronologically, which meant the water scenes came near the end of filming. By that point, Moura was already tired from months of work.
“Those were the most physically demanding scenes, like to have to hold our breath in the water.”
The actor also mentioned spending entire days in the water, which affected the cast’s skin and added to the difficulty.
Moura joked that part of the challenge might come from his age. But the reality of the production was serious. The film required him to appear in 97% of the scenes with no rest.
Greta Lee, who plays Ann Delgado, shared similar experiences. She told Radio Times that she now has a completely different relationship with water. The cast trained extensively with the London School of Diving.
“We had to do stunts underwater while holding our breaths, and it was so incredibly humbling in so many ways.”
Lee learned during training that she was a floater rather than a sinker when swimming. This meant the costume department had to sew additional weights into her outfit to keep her underwater.
Director Louis Leterrier, known for The Incredible Hulk and Fast X, helmed the project. The film also stars Gabriel Barbosa, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Riley Chung.
The Sequel Question
The Last House ends with a cliffhanger that has left viewers wondering about a possible continuation. In the final moments, the Delgado family escapes their home and sends out a distress call over the radio. An unidentified voice responds with “hello,” confirming that other survivors exist.
This ending naturally raises questions about The Last House 2. Moura addressed the possibility in his interview with ScreenRant.
The actor said he is not sure whether Netflix plans to move forward with a sequel. However, he remains open to returning as Jason Delgado if the opportunity comes.
“He is hopeful and willing to reprise his role if the opportunity arises.”
Moura also shared that he is curious to explore what happens after the family leaves the house. He wants to know more about the creatures and the state of the world outside. The actor believes there are other people who survived the ordeal.
Whether a sequel happens may depend on how well the film performs with audiences. Moura expressed hope that the movie does well enough to justify a second installment.
