What Happens in Iruma-kun Season 4 Episode 23
Episode 23 is titled “The Path to the Demon King” and follows Iruma Suzuki as he visits the Demon King Division (also known as Batra). Since being named a candidate for the next Demon King, Iruma has started to think about things he never paid attention to before. He decides to seek knowledge about the Demon King from Sabnock Sabro, who is known for his deep understanding of Demon King lore and history.
Inspired by Iruma’s serious approach, Sabnock decides to visit his family home for the first time in a long while. He had been avoiding this visit for personal reasons. While at the Sabnock residence, a demon who happens to be visiting the family reveals information about the Demon King candidate training plan. This revelation gives Iruma and Sabnock new insight into what lies ahead on the path to becoming the Demon King.
What Happened in Iruma-kun Season 4 Episode 22
Episode 22, titled “The Arrogant Diva” (“傲慢の歌姫”), focused on the Akudol Grand Prix (Dem-Dol games) finale. Gyari won the right to choose the music genre for the final performance and picked rock, her specialty. Gyari stormed the stage and performed an improvised grunge and punk-inspired set that surprised the audience but failed to win them over.
Team Devimuse, made up of Kuromu, Meri, Lindy, and Iruma, then performed. With Iruma’s help, the group shifted from hard rock to a gentler idol style when Kuromu transformed into an idol. Team Devimuse won the competition, and Kuromu was named the best performer of the games. During the award ceremony, Gyari confessed her feelings for Kuromu, adding a romantic twist to the rivalry. Kuromu rejected Gyari’s idea of involving Iruma in a love triangle.
How Episode 23 Shifts the Story Away from the Music Festival
The Dem-Dol games arc ended with Episode 22, and Episode 23 takes the story in a different direction. The music festival storyline received a lot of screen time across Season 4, with episodes focusing on idol performances, disguises, and competition drama. Episode 23 slows down the pace and returns to the larger narrative about the Demon King succession.
Sabnock Sabro has been a major character since Season 1, but his family life and personal background have not been explored in detail until now. The episode uses Iruma’s new role as a Demon King candidate to bring Sabnock’s home life into the spotlight. The Demon King candidate training plan mentioned in the episode connects to the broader political and magical conflicts that have been building throughout the series.
