X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episode 8: What to Expect
Episode 8 is titled “The Dead Man’s Hand”. The official episode summary states that the X-Men confront a ghost from their past.
Many fans believe this episode will address the fate of Gambit (Remy LeBeau). The Season 1 finale included a post-credits scene where Apocalypse picked up one of Gambit’s playing cards. Episode 8’s title strongly suggests Gambit’s return, possibly in his “Death” form as one of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen.
The episode will feature new scenes with the X-Men team and continues the season’s time-travel storyline. The X-Men remain scattered across different eras, with some heroes trying to return to the 1990s while others face new enemies and anti-mutant threats.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episode 7 Recap: “Strange Land, Savage Heart”
Episode 7, titled “Strange Land, Savage Heart,” aired on July 29, 2026. The episode delivered one of the strongest Nightcrawler stories in the series.
The plot centered on the Acolytes, a group of zealots who worship Magneto. Led by Exodus (voiced by Bo Poraj), the Acolytes kidnapped Graydon Creed (Ben Pronsky), a well-known anti-mutant activist. The Acolytes planned to put Creed on trial for his mutant-hating agenda.
Several X-Men members—including Nightcrawler, Rogue, Polaris, Bishop, and Beast—went to rescue Creed. During the trial, Nightcrawler asked Creed why he hated mutants. The confrontation escalated into a battle between Nightcrawler and Exodus, which ended in a draw.
In a shocking turn, Graydon Creed shot and killed Exodus. Nightcrawler teleported Creed to safety but decided to let him go, believing he was not worth killing.
The episode also featured Colossus, who was about to deliver judgment before Exodus intervened. The ending showed Cable and Jubilee alongside a deceased Apocalypse. In the previous episode, Apocalypse had resurrected Gambit as one of his Horsemen.
Episode 7 did an excellent job exploring both Colossus and Nightcrawler’s characters while introducing a new ideological conflict among mutantkind.

Why You Should Watch X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episode 8
X-Men ’97 Season 2 continues the story from the beloved 1990s animated series. The second season picks up directly after the first season’s finale, with the X-Men team scattered across different time periods.
One group of mutants—including Professor X, Magneto, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, and Bishop—finds themselves in ancient Egypt in 3000 B.C., where they meet En Sabah Nur, the mutant destined to become Apocalypse. The third episode gave Apocalypse a backstory, something the original 1990s series never did.
Meanwhile, Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Morph, and Storm are trapped in a dystopian future ruled by a different version of Apocalypse.
Season 2 introduces several new mutant teams and characters. X-Factor and X-Force both appear in the second episode. Cable forms X-Force to stop mutant threats before they become tragedies. The team includes Archangel, Psylocke, Jubilee, and Sunspot. New mutants joining the roster include Polaris, Quentin Quire, Chamber, Penance, Siryn, Exodus, and Havok.
The voice cast features returning actors including Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), George Buza (Beast), Ray Chase (Cyclops), and Jennifer Hale (Jean Grey). Ross Marquand voices Professor X, and Matthew Waterson voices Magneto.
With only two episodes remaining in the season, Episode 8 is expected to deliver major revelations. The return of Gambit—whether as a hero or as one of Apocalypse’s Horsemen—will have significant consequences for the team and for Rogue and Magneto’s relationship.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episode 8 streams on Disney+ on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 12:00 AM PT / 3:00 AM ET.
