The summer anime season continues to heat up as one of the most talked-about romance series prepares to drop its next episode. Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You has built a loyal following with its unique take on adult relationships, and the upcoming Episode 9 is set to bring major drama to the smoking area.

What Happens in Episode 9: The Ring Mystery
The official story for Episode 9 has been released, and it promises significant conflict between the two leads. During a drinking session with colleagues Gotō, Maezawa, and Ōno, a rumor surfaces that Sasaki is wearing a ring on his left hand.
Tayama is unable to hide her shock upon hearing this news. When she meets Sasaki again in the smoking area, she unintentionally acts cold toward him. The episode will explore the misaligned feelings between the two characters and reveal the unexpected truth behind the ring.

Episode 8 Recap: The Lost Ashtray
Episode 8, titled “Right As Daisy,” focused on themes of connection and memory. The episode was split into two parts, both dealing with how people impact each other’s lives.
In the first half, Tayama realized she had misplaced the novelty pocket ashtray that Sasaki had gifted her. She searched everywhere but could not find it, which caused her significant anxiety because of the ashtray’s obvious connection to Sasaki. Sasaki overheard Tayama venting about losing the ashtray and enlisted the help of a dog to help him find it. He eventually returned it to her.
In the second half, a rainy day prompted Sasaki and Tayama to talk about why they each started smoking. Tayama asked Sasaki about his smoking habits, and he blamed it on a college girlfriend who “forced” him to smoke. He then asked Tayama the same question, and she related the story of an encounter with Sasaki eight years earlier when she was ready to quit smoking.
The episode highlighted Tayama’s growing feelings for Sasaki. However, Sasaki did not remember the past encounter with Tayama, creating a significant disconnect between the two characters.
