A new Avengers: Doomsday rumor has set Marvel fans on fire, claiming a hidden connection between Scarlet Witch and Victor von Doom. The chatter suggests Wanda Maximoff could be far more than just another hero in the fight against Doom. Some leaks point to a romantic bond, while others hint at a darker form of control. Elizabeth Olsen, the actress behind Wanda, continues to say she is not in the movie, but the clues keep piling up.
The Rumor That Started It All
The latest wave of talk comes from a fan account on X, which posted that Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., is married to Earth-838 Wanda Maximoff. This version of Wanda is the one whose body was taken over by the main-universe Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If the rumor holds, the Billy and Tommy of Earth-838 would be Doom’s children, tying the villain directly to Wanda’s family story.
This is not the first time such a link has been floated. A separate scooper known as @MyTimeToShineH claimed that Scarlet Witch will be a “main player” in both Doomsday and Secret Wars and will share a lot of screen time with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom “as his lover”. The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez later hinted that Wanda’s title in these films could be “Baroness,” adding weight to the idea of a formal bond between the two characters.
Doom’s Plan: Love or Manipulation?
The idea of a romance between Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom has deep roots in Marvel Comics. In the Avengers: The Children’s Crusade storyline, Doom took in an amnesiac Wanda and intended to marry her so he could steal her powers. That comic history has fueled theories that the Marvel Cinematic Universe could follow a similar path, with Doom using Wanda’s chaos magic to reshape reality.
Not everyone agrees on the romantic angle. Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus pushed back on the “weird marriage scenario” from the comics. He explained that Wanda’s real goal in Doomsday will be to undo the mistakes she made while using the Darkhold. “This is going to be all about her redemption arc,” Perez stated. That reading suggests Doom might be manipulating a confused Wanda rather than sharing a true partnership with her.
Elizabeth Olsen Keeps Saying No
The biggest obstacle to the rumor is the actress herself. Elizabeth Olsen has repeatedly stated that she is not part of Avengers: Doomsday. When asked directly about the film, she told The Hollywood Reporter, “No, I’m back [in the US]” and explained she was busy with other projects. In another interview, she said, “I know nothing. I know about VisionQuest because I’ve seen Paul [Bettany] in the last six months and I know nothing about any of it”.
Her absence from the official cast announcement in March 2025 only added to the confusion. Olsen’s stunt double, Jennifer White, later shared hints on social media that some fans took as proof she was involved, but no official confirmation has followed. Director Joe Russo gave a brief response when asked about Olsen’s return, saying only, “We shall see”.
The Latverian Witches Clue
Visual clues from Marvel’s marketing have kept the theory alive. A new poster for Avengers: Doomsday, shown at San Diego Comic-Con Mรกlaga in October 2026, placed Doctor Doom on his throne with three mysterious figures in colored robes standing behind him. The figures are believed to be Latverian Witches, and one of them wears red, the signature color of Scarlet Witch’s magic.
Costumes for three Latverian Witches in green, yellow, and purple were also displayed at San Diego Comic-Con in California earlier that year. Fans have guessed that the red-robed figure is Wanda, the green one is Sylvie from Loki, and the purple one could be Agatha Harkness or Clea. Marvel has not confirmed any of these identities.
Which Wanda Would It Be?
The rumor gains complexity when the multiverse enters the picture. The main-universe Wanda, Earth-616, was last seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, seemingly crushed when Mount Wundagore collapsed on her. Both Agatha All Along and VisionQuest have treated that Wanda as dead. If Scarlet Witch appears in Doomsday, she could be a variant from another Earth rather than the Wanda audiences know.
A separate report claimed that Olsen would be playing Earth-616’s Wanda, meaning she survived the events of Multiverse of Madness. That version of Wanda would have good reason to be on Doom’s radar, since her rampage destroyed every copy of the Darkhold across the multiverse. Doom could seek her out specifically because of that act.
What the Comic Books Say
Marvel Comics has a long history of pairing these two characters. Beyond the Children’s Crusade marriage plot, Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch have shared a complex relationship built on mutual respect for each other’s magical power. Doom has often tried to control or channel Wanda’s reality-warping abilities, seeing her as a tool for his grand plans.
That comic history makes the MCU rumor plausible to many fans. Doom’s goal in the upcoming films is believed to involve reshaping the multiverse, and Wanda’s chaos magic is one of the few forces capable of doing that on a large scale. Whether the films frame that as a romance, a captivity, or a dark alliance remains unclear.
Release Date and Cast Details
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, in the United States and most global markets. The film will open a day earlier, on December 17, in several international territories, including India. The movie is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
The confirmed cast includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, and Letitia Wright as Shuri. Elizabeth Olsen’s name does not appear on the official cast list.
Why the Rumor Won’t Go Away
The Scarlet Witch rumor persists because Marvel has left several doors open. Wanda’s fate in Multiverse of Madness was ambiguous, with no body shown after the mountain collapsed. The Darkhold’s destruction could have ripple effects that Doom wants to exploit. And the Latverian Witches in the marketing materials look deliberately designed to spark this exact conversation.

Fan reactions have been mixed. Some readers of the scooper reports rejected the idea of Wanda being a villain again, arguing that Doom must be manipulating her confused state rather than winning her heart. Others pointed to the comic-book precedent and said the pairing would make sense for a multiverse story. Marvel Studios has not commented on any of the rumors.
