South Korea’s JTBC news outlet has found itself in the middle of a major controversy after airing incorrect CCTV footage related to BTS member Suga’s alleged DUI incident. The erroneous footage, which has since been quietly removed, has sparked widespread backlash, with many netizens demanding a formal apology from the broadcaster.

JTBC Airs Incorrect Footage on August 7

On August 7, 2024 (KST), JTBC released CCTV footage that they claimed was linked to Suga’s drunk driving incident. The video, which was widely circulated, was meant to provide evidence of the alleged event, but it soon became a focal point for controversy.

DongA Ilbo Exposes the Truth, Reveals Real Footage

On August 14, 2024, another Korean news outlet, DongA Ilbo, revealed that the footage broadcast by JTBC was, in fact, incorrect. The footage was not of Suga but of another individual entirely. DongA Ilbo not only debunked JTBC’s claim but also released what they asserted was the authentic footage of Suga’s DUI incident.

Following the revelation, JTBC quickly removed the original video from their YouTube channel and replaced it with the newly released footage provided by DongA Ilbo. However, their decision to silently delete the video without issuing a public correction has only added fuel to the fire, leading to an outcry from netizens.

Netizens Demand Accountability from JTBC

The silent removal of the incorrect video by JTBC, coupled with the absence of a public apology, has sparked significant outrage. Many netizens have taken to social media and comment sections, demanding that JTBC issue a formal apology for their mistake.

“Doesn’t JTBC have to apologize for its false CCTV on Suga’s DUI? I’m not even a fan of BTS, but the CCTV was said to be false… It’s true that he did wrong by drunk driving, but JTBC ought to apologize for their wrong report too.”

“Why did you report another person riding their scooter as if it was Suga? Are you insane?”

“You made mistakes on Kang Hyung Wook’s power trip, Suga’s CCTV footage, and even on G-DRAGON, too. What are you doing? How will the public believe you at this point? You shouldn’t be just turning the video private, but apologizing too.”

“Apologize for your wrong report. This is so embarrassing as a true media outlet. How can you publish false information when the world turns based on reading the news? Even if you happen to provide false information, you need to promptly apologize and correct it. That’s such basic common sense and knowledge. Apologize.”

“Apologize for spreading false information.”

In addition to exposing the incorrect footage, DongA Ilbo provided more details about Suga’s DUI incident. The case continues to be a major topic of discussion, with fans and the general public closely monitoring the developments.
