The much-talked-about K-drama Family by Choice has released a highlight trailer featuring Hwang In Yeop, Jung Chaeyeon, and Bae Hyun Sung. The trailer showcases the difficult journey the characters must endure to become a true family.

Released on October 2, 2024, the trailer opens with Jung Chaeyeon’s character, Yoon Ju Won, stating her plan to unite her family. She addresses Hwang In Yeop’s Kim San Ha and Bae Hyun Sung’s Kang Hae Joon, alongside their fathers, Yoon Jung Jae (played by Choi Won Young) and Kim Dae Wook (Choi Moo Sung). Ju Won proposes an “adopted marriage” as a means to bring the family closer, with the group sharing moments of joy together, including meals.
A look into their past reveals how Kim San Ha and his father moved into the building where Ju Won and her father lived. Kang Hae Joon later joined them as a foster child taken in by Yoon Jung Jae.
Complex Family Dynamics
The trailer also highlights the dynamics between the three leads: Kim San Ha (played by Hwang In Yeop) often acts as the eldest, while Kang Hae Joon steps into that role occasionally. Ju Won is the youngest, brimming with energy. Despite not being related by blood, a voiceover remarks how they resemble a real family. San Ha’s protective nature is revealed when he tells Ju Won, “Only if you are fine, only then me and Hae Joon will be fine,” underlining their strong bond.
A Decade of Separation
However, the trailer takes a turn when Kim San Ha is devastated by the return of his estranged mother. Following a heated argument with Kang Hae Joon, both San Ha and Hae Joon decide to leave, abandoning Ju Won. The trio spends 10 years apart, drifting away from each other.
Upon their return after a decade, Yoon Ju Won, still hurt, declares that she wants nothing to do with them. Meanwhile, Kim San Ha confesses his feelings to Ju Won, and Kang Hae Joon asks for her hand in marriage, revealing a complex layer of romantic tension between the characters.
