Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the global phenomenon “Solo Leveling” is in discussions to add another star to its cast. Actor Kang You Seok is reportedly in talks to join the series, where he would play the crucial supporting role of Yoo Jin Ho.

The production is set to be led by Byeon Woo Seok as the main character, Sung Jin Woo, with Han So Hee also reviewing an offer to play Cha Hae In. This adaptation brings to life the beloved web novel and webtoon that has captivated millions of readers worldwide.

The Potential New Cast Member

According to reports from Korean media on November 19, Kang You Seok has been offered the role of Yoo Jin Ho in the new Netflix original series. In response to the reports, his agency, JUST Entertainment, confirmed the news.

The agency stated, > โ€œHe has received an offer to appear in โ€˜Solo Levelingโ€™ and is positively reviewing it.โ€

This confirmation indicates that negotiations are underway, moving the project one step closer to finalizing its main cast.

Understanding the “Solo Leveling” Story

For those unfamiliar with the source material, “Solo Leveling” is a massive success story that began as a web novel before being adapted into a popular webtoon and an award-winning anime.

The plot follows the journey of Sung Jin Woo, an E-rank Hunter who starts as the weakest of the weak. These Hunters are individuals who protect the real world from monstrous threats that emerge from mysterious portals called Gates. After a near-fatal experience during a dangerous raid, Sung Jin Woo gains a unique ability to level up his powers. His incredible growth from the lowest tier to an overwhelmingly powerful hunter becomes an unexpected beacon of hope for humanity.

The Role of Yoo Jin Ho

Should Kang You Seok accept the offer, he will be playing Yoo Jin Ho, a dynamic and loyal character who becomes an essential part of the story. Yoo Jin Ho is not just any hunter; he is the second son of a major corporation in the hunter industry.

Driven by admiration and respect, he forms a close bond with the protagonist, Sung Jin Woo. He eventually becomes Jin Woo’s most reliable helper and key supporter, often providing crucial backup. The character is known for his loyalty and gutsy nature, serving as a fan-favorite ally to the main hero.

A Rising Star’s Busy Schedule

Kang You Seok is a rising actor who has been building an impressive career. Since his debut in 2018, he has taken on diverse roles in series like “Light On Me,” “Black Knight,” and “Payback: Money and Power.”

His career is currently enjoying a significant surge. In 2025, he gained wider recognition for his performances in the Netflix original series “When Life Gives You Tangerines” and the tvN medical drama “Resident Playbook.” His growing popularity is also evidenced by his upcoming first solo actor fan meeting, titled “2025 Kang Youseok Fan Meeting โ€˜u:niverse,โ€™” scheduled for December 27, 2025.

The Growing “Solo Leveling” Universe

Netflix officially announced its live-action plans for “Solo Leveling” earlier this year. The series will be co-directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, who are known for their work on films like “Ashfall.” The production will be handled by Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures.

The streamer has promised a large-scale production with extensive visual effects work, aiming to create a visually rich and faithful adaptation of the source material. The goal is to satisfy long-time fans while setting a new standard for how live-action adaptations should be made.

The original “Solo Leveling” webtoon has achieved staggering success with over 14 billion cumulative views globally. Its anime adaptation further solidified its status, making history as the first Korean animation to sweep nine major categories at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year.
