The wait for answers about the future of the hit Hulu series Paradise is over. Following a dramatic second season that left viewers with more questions than answers, the streaming service has officially given the green light for a third season. Creator Dan Fogelman and star Sterling K. Brown are bringing the political thriller to a close, wrapping up the story exactly as they originally planned.

Fogelman, known for creating emotional dramas like This Is Us, designed Paradise to be a three-season story from the very beginning. With the Season 2 finale now streaming, fans can breathe easy knowing that the final chapter is on its way, bringing the story of the underground bunker to a proper ending.

Official Renewal News and Timeline

Hulu announced the renewal for Paradise Season 3 on March 17, 2026, ahead of the Season 2 finale that aired on March 30. The news came directly from Disney and Hulu, confirming that the series from 20th Television would return. The announcement was shared through official press releases and featured a fun video from Sterling K. Brown on the show’s social media channels, where he used cue cards to tease that the story had too many secrets to end after just two seasons.

The renewal was not a surprise to those following the show closely. Fogelman had previously stated in interviews that he had a clear vision for the show’s structure.

“It’s going to be a three-season show, I know where it goes. I know what the shape of each season is,” he told The Hollywood Reporter earlier in the year.

This plan gave the writers a clear roadmap for the story, allowing them to craft a narrative that would feel complete by the end of the third installment.

What the Season 2 Finale Set Up

For those who have finished the second season, the finale titled “Exodus” changed the entire scope of the show. The episode saw the bunker, which had been the central setting for most of the series, fall into chaos and ultimately explode. Julianne Nicholson’s character, Sinatra, made the ultimate sacrifice to contain the blast, locking herself inside to save the escaping residents.

But the biggest reveal came at the very end. Before her death, Sinatra told Xavier about a second bunker hidden beneath the Denver Airport. Inside this facility is Alex, a powerful AI-controlled quantum computer. We learned that Alex was created by Henry Miller (Patrick Fischler) and Thomas Doherty’s character, Link (whose real name is Dylan). Alex has the ability to predict disasters and, more importantly, manipulate time and create alternate timelines. The season ended with Xavier arriving at this new location, ready to face this new force.

What to Expect in Paradise Season 3

The third season will move away from the bunker setting entirely. According to Fogelman, a major part of the upcoming story will focus on Xavier’s hesitation to take on the mission Sinatra left him. After finally reuniting with his wife, Teri, he is now being told to chase a supercomputer 100 miles away.

Dan Fogelman explained to the Los Angeles Times that the journey to the airport and what they find there will be a major focus. He described the airport as a “very prominent part of the third season” and confirmed that the AI named Alex is “at the core of what we’re doing.” The show will likely explore the terrifying potential of artificial intelligence, as the characters grapple with a machine that operates beyond human understanding.

Executive producer John Hoberg also confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the show is sticking to its ending.

“We know what the end is, and it’s an end that would make it very difficult to make a season four come afterward,” Hoberg stated, confirming that Season 3 will serve as the final chapter of this story.

Cast and Character Returns

While an official cast list has not been released, Sterling K. Brown is confirmed to return as Xavier Collins. Given the ending of Season 2, we can also expect to see Enuka Okuma as Teri, Sarah Shahi as Dr. Gabriela Torabi, and Thomas Doherty as Link/Dylan, who survived the finale.

One of the most interesting questions involves characters who died. James Marsden has played President Cal Bradford in flashbacks throughout the first two seasons. Fogelman told Entertainment Weekly that he has “had roles for him in mind both in the second and third season,” meaning we will likely see Marsden again, possibly through the time-bending abilities of Alex. Similarly, while Sinatra appears to have died, Fogelman hinted to the Times that it would “not be surprising to me to see Julianne more,” suggesting flashbacks or alternate timeline versions of the character may appear.

Actress Nicole Brydon Bloom, who played Jane, confirmed she likely will not return after her character was killed off, and Shailene Woodley is also not expected to return following the death of her character, Annie, in childbirth.

Production Timeline

Production for Paradise Season 3 is scheduled to begin in April 2026. While an official release date has not been set, creator Dan Fogelman hopes the wait between seasons will be shorter than previous gaps. Season 1 premiered in January 2025, and Season 2 arrived in February 2026. If production goes smoothly, fans could potentially see the final season premiere in early 2027.

Even though the main story is ending, the world of Paradise may not be over. Executive producer John Hoberg has shared an idea for a potential spinoff centered on the “Cancer Cowboys,” the group of survivors led by Link who traveled the country shutting down nuclear reactors after the apocalypse. Hoberg described them as “almost like knights” and believes their backstory could support its own series. While this is just an idea for now, it shows that the creative team sees potential to expand the universe beyond the main story.

For now, fans can re-watch the first two seasons of Paradise, which are available to stream on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ in international markets.
