MBC’s “A Bona Fide Killer” closed its 14-episode run on September 12, 2026, with a tense confrontation between Gong Hyo Jin’s Yu Bo Na and Lee Elijah’s Layla. The finale delivered a gunshot, a six-month separation, and a quiet hint that the legendary sniper known as Kingfisher may not be done yet. Episode 13, which aired on September 11, drew a nationwide rating of 9.6 percent, making it the most-watched miniseries in its Friday time slot.
A Deadly Reunion In Seonyudo
The final episode begins with Lee Dong Jin (Lee Sang Yi) preparing to lead a special forces operation to capture Kingfisher. Meanwhile, Kwon Tae Sung (Jung Jun Won) receives a message from a restricted number telling him that his wife is at Seonyudo. He rushes to the location and finds Yu Bo Na locked in a standoff with Layla, the Russian assassin who had traveled to Korea to settle an old score from their shared past.
The two women fight as a hidden sniper, Seul Gi, watches from a distance and signals a warning when police teams close in. Tae Sung runs toward Bo Na as Layla slips away. The couple lock eyes, and before either can speak, he takes her hand and tells her she needs to leave. Layla watches the exchange and realizes that Tae Sung already knew his wife’s secret.
A Bullet Meant For Her Husband
Layla fires at Kwon Tae Sung, and Yu Bo Na throws herself in front of the bullet. She collapses on the ground as Layla, convinced the job is finished, leaves the scene. The Durumi Electronics team sends out a drone that locks onto Layla after seeing Bo Na injured.
The Durumi Electronics group works together to get Bo Na out without the police noticing. Tae Sung finally understands who everyone is, recalling the dinner they all shared at his home earlier in the season. Bo Na is taken into emergency surgery, and the bullet is removed. She survives, with no vital organs hit.
Layla’s End And A Secret That Survives
Lee Dong Jin’s team catches up with Layla. She laughs when they assume she is Kingfisher, then turns to shoot at the officers. She is gunned down before she can fire. The police believe the case is closed, and the press reports that Layla was Kingfisher. However, her fingerprints and immigration records do not match anything in national databases, and a later match only confirms her entry into the country.
Dong Jin is not convinced. The Russia connection puts Bo Na back on his radar, as he remembers a conversation with Tae Sung eight years ago about Bo Na being adopted by a Russian family. He also thinks he may have seen Tae Sung and Bo Na leaving the park on the night of the shooting, though he cannot be certain.
Six Months Apart And A Quiet Return
Bo Na wakes up and learns that Tae Sung has known her identity since their daughter Yul was in the emergency room. She feels she no longer knows the man she married, despite their years together. She leaves in a taxi without talking things through, and the separation puts a strain on their marriage. She also resigns from Durumi Electronics.
Tae Sung speaks with Kim Bong Pal, the team leader, who helps him understand Bo Na’s state of mind and why she resigned years earlier. Tae Sung then digs into the two victims Kingfisher had killed and connects them to the unsolved murder of a mother and daughter in Cambodia the previous summer. He works with Cambodian police and clears Kingfisher’s name, which disbands the task force.
Six months later, snow begins to fall. Tae Sung travels to the cabin where he and Bo Na shared their first kiss. She is there, standing in the same spot. He tells her he loves her and that she is not alone. Instead of trying to return to how things were, he suggests they take their time getting to know each other properly so he can love every side of her.
Bo Na returns home. The family attends Yul’s sports day, where Bo Na shows off her own athletic skills and wins over Tae Sung’s mother, who finally calls her “daughter in law.” Tae Sung meets Dong Jin, who has taken a demotion to traffic duty. Tae Sung has been named Journalist of the Year, and the public is calling for Kingfisher to return, though Tae Sung urges his friend to return to the force and stop another copycat from appearing.
A Final Scene That Leaves One Door Open
The episode ends with Bo Na at home, cleaning. A news report shows a recently released criminal. Bo Na makes a phone call and asks, “Shall we go?” The line hints that Kingfisher may still be active.
Viewers had strong reactions to the finale.
