The story is set in the World of Twelve. Zabel (also called Zabelle Sheran Sharm), queen of Bonta and guardian of the Ebony Dofus, aims to unite the nations under her rule. Her methods bring hardship to the lands. A prophecy spoken by her son points to a boy with azure blue eyes who will end her power.
That boy is Welsh, a 16-year-old from the village of Broccoli (sometimes called Brassica). He lives a quiet life focused on cooking with his adoptive mother and mentor, Mama Caroni, and his cat friend. His world changes when a black dragon named Azalar attacks the village. Welsh must seek the Ivory Dofus, the only item strong enough to stop Zabel.
Shedar, also 16, is the prince of Bonta, the largest kingdom on the continent. He supports his mother at first but begins to question her actions after certain events. The two boys meet by chance and join forces against the threat of conquest.
Supporting characters include Bechamel, Welsh’s childhood friend; Joris, a guide and teacher who once resolved a major conflict that shaped the country’s fate; and Khan Karkass, an adventurer who joins the group. The opening theme is “Bokura no Mirai e” performed by Hironobu Kageyama and Masami Okui. The ending is “Omelette” by Hironobu Kageyama.
Rikuya Yasuda voices Welsh. Yuki Kaji voices Shedar. Additional cast includes Yuko Kaida as Zabel, Makoto Furukawa as Joris, Risa Kayama as Bechamel, Wataru Takagi as Khan Karkass, Show Hayami as Azalar, and Risa Hayamizu as Mama Caroni.
Director Naoki Horiuchi leads the project at Studio Massket. Original creator, scripts, and series composition concepts come from Tot. Kenichi Yamashita handles series composition for the Japanese version. Character designs are by Saori Nakashiki. Music is by Pierre-Jean Beaudoin and Jose Pavli. Production involves Ankama and Studio Dream Catcher.
The first episode introduces the chance meeting that sets Welsh and Shedar on their path together. Viewers will see the early impact of the dragon attack, the weight of the prophecy, and the first steps toward gathering allies in the fight for the World of Twelve.
