The severe floods in Assam have drawn support from across the country, with many celebrities stepping up to help. The latest name to join the relief efforts is stand-up comedian and content creator Samay Raina, who has donated Rs 10 lakh to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the contribution on social media, thanking Raina for his support during this difficult time.
The donation comes as Assam continues to battle one of its worst flood seasons in recent years. According to official figures, more than 1.55 lakh people remain affected across 13 districts, and the death toll has reached 98. Raina’s contribution adds to the growing list of celebrities who have extended help to the flood-hit state.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Thanks Samay Raina for His Contribution
The Assam Chief Minister’s Office shared the news of Raina’s donation on X (formerly Twitter). The official handle posted a screenshot of the RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) transaction and confirmed that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had acknowledged the Rs 10 lakh contribution.
The official post read:
“HCM Dr @himantabiswa acknowledges the contribution of 10 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund by Shri Samay Raina.”
Chief Minister Sarma also personally thanked the comedian in a separate post, writing:
“Thank you for contributing to our relief efforts during this difficult time in Assam, Samay.”
The Chief Minister’s acknowledgment highlighted how such contributions strengthen relief and rehabilitation work following the destructive floods that have displaced thousands of families.
Assam Floods: The Scale of the Crisis
The flood situation in Assam remains critical. Heavy monsoon rains have caused rivers to overflow, submerging large parts of the state. Golaghat is the worst-hit district, with 58,750 people affected. Sivasagar and Jorhat are also among the areas facing severe flooding.
Official data shows that 1,55,849 people were still reeling under the deluge. The number had come down from over 1.68 lakh people across 15 districts just a day earlier, but the situation remains serious. Many families have been forced to leave their homes and take shelter in relief camps.
The floods have disrupted daily life, cutting off transport links and making it difficult for people to access basic supplies. Government agencies, NGOs, and individual volunteers have been working round the clock to provide food, shelter, and other essentials to those in need.
Bhumi Pednekar and Randeep Hooda Join Ground Relief Efforts
Before Samay Raina made his donation, two other Bollywood celebrities had already travelled to Assam to participate in relief work on the ground.
Randeep Hooda reached the flood-affected districts and took part in a relief distribution programme organised by the NGO Global Sikhs in Sivasagar. He shared a video on Instagram showing him distributing kitchen essentials from a boat and walking through knee-deep water to reach affected families.
In his Instagram caption, Hooda wrote:
“Assam is battling devastating floods, leaving countless families in urgent need of support. Every contribution can help provide relief, food, shelter and essential supplies to those affected. Let us come together and help the people of Assam through this crisis. Scan the QR code.”
Hooda spent two days on the ground, working alongside volunteers to distribute ration kits and other essential supplies to families impacted by the floods.
Bhumi Pednekar also travelled to Assam with the Bharat Disaster Relief Foundation (BDRF). She was seen walking through knee-deep water and travelling by boat to reach homes surrounded by water. She distributed relief materials and met with affected villagers.
Pednekar shared a photo with flood-affected villagers and wrote:
“Every flooded village reminds us that recovery doesn’t begin when the rain stops, but when the help arrives.”
She had earlier urged people across the country to donate and support relief efforts, highlighting the severe displacement and rising death toll in the state.
Social Media Reacts to Samay Raina’s Donation
The news of Samay Raina’s donation quickly spread across social media platforms. While many users praised the comedian for his generous contribution, others brought up his past legal trouble involving his YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
In February 2025, Assam Police had filed an FIR against Raina and other influencers, including Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija, for allegedly “promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion” on the show. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had publicly shared the names of those accused at the time.
Following CM Sarma’s thank-you message to Raina, several social media users joked that the FIR against the comedian should now be withdrawn. One user wrote, “Aab to samay bhai ka case withdrawal karlo sir,” asking the chief minister to drop the case. Another commented, “Bro you literally sent Assam Police to arrest him about 1.5 years ago, irony bruhh”. A user said, “Now get the FIR withdrawn. It was just a joke, what crime did he commit anyway?”.
At the same time, many users focused on the Rs 10 lakh contribution rather than the old dispute. They praised Raina for supporting flood relief and said his donation should be recognised separately from his past controversy with the Assam government.
Raina has since returned to content creation with the second season of India’s Got Latent, which is now available on Netflix and YouTube.

Samay Raina is not the only celebrity to extend support to Assam. Several other Bollywood stars and public figures have also made donations or participated in relief efforts.
Kartik Aaryan reportedly donated Rs 1 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Aamir Khan’s production house contributed Rs 25 lakh. Ayushmann Khurrana donated Rs 11 lakh. Anupam Kher donated Rs 5 lakh. Singer Guru Randhawa also donated Rs 5 lakh. Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Ananya Birla have also extended support through donations and relief campaigns.
Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani donated Rs 21 crore to the Assam CM Relief Fund. The support from public figures has helped keep the spotlight on Assam and encouraged more people to contribute to relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The floods in Assam began after intense monsoon rains started on July 19. Relief and rescue operations are continuing across the affected districts, with government agencies and volunteers working to provide food, shelter, and essential supplies to those in need.
