Daemons of the Shadow Realm continues its thrilling first season, and Episode 18 is just around the corner. The anime, based on the manga by Hiromu Arakawa — the legendary creator of Fullmetal Alchemist — has become one of the most talked-about shows of 2026. Produced by Studio BONES, the series follows twins Yuru and Asa as they navigate a world where humans command powerful supernatural beings called Daemons.

Episode 18 is scheduled to release on Saturday, August 8, 2026. New episodes drop weekly on Saturdays, continuing the pattern established since the series premiered on April 4, 2026. The show is expected to run for two consecutive cours, totaling 24 episodes.

Where to Watch Episode 18

Daemons of the Shadow Realm streams on multiple platforms worldwide. Crunchyroll is the primary streaming home for the series, carrying both the subtitled and dubbed versions. The anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, the Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia.

Other platforms where the series is available include:

  • Netflix (began streaming on July 4, 2026)
  • Hulu (available in the US)
  • Prime Video (available for purchase)
  • Apple TV Store (available for purchase)
  • Disney Plus (in select regions)

The English dub is available on Crunchyroll, with new dubbed episodes releasing weekly. The English dub cast includes Ben Stegmair as Yuru, Molly Zhang as Asa, Colleen Clinkenbeard as Left, and Jerry Jewell as Jin Kagemori.

The series is also available through the Crunchyroll Amazon Channel. In Japan, the show airs on television networks as well.

What Happened in Episode 17

Episode 17, which aired on August 1, 2026, delivered one of the most thrilling episodes of the season so far. The episode finally revealed the traitor within the Kagemori clan — Akio — who had been conspiring against Asa and the others.

Jin Kagemori set up a complicated trap using a daemon that could imitate humans. He swapped the real Asa with a fake version created by his daemon, and Akio fell for the deception, revealing his true alliance. Akio’s punishment was severe — he ended up trapped in the scrotum of Makoto’s daemon.

The episode also gave viewers a deeper look at Gabby’s painful backstory. She had spent years trying to protect Asa from assassins and had already lost her closest friend once. This past trauma explains her aggressive behavior toward anyone who threatens Asa.

Gonzou’s abilities were also highlighted in Episode 17. Unlike most people who have only one daemon partner, Gonzou can connect with multiple daemons simultaneously through his daemon pair Hyakki Yako. This gift turned a dangerous standoff into a manageable situation.

The biggest twist came from Shingo, who had been hiding his true power. His daemons are based on Raijin and Fujin, the deities of thunder and wind. Yuru managed to capture Shingo, but with two godlike daemons standing against him, the risk was considerable.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger, with viewers eagerly waiting to see what comes next.

The Story So Far

Daemons of the Shadow Realm tells the story of Yuru, a young hunter living in a small mountain village with his twin sister Asa. Their peaceful lives are shattered when a “dragon’s roar” echoes across the sky.

A mysterious organization destroys their village, and Yuru gains the ability to control Daemons. He sets out on a journey to reunite with his sister and confront his destiny. The twins were separated at a young age and unaware of their heritage — they are destined to rule supernatural beings called Daemons.

The series uses a formula similar to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, where the main cast faces enemies that later become allies. The show balances action, strategy, and character development, keeping viewers engaged with each new episode.

The anime has been praised for its animation quality, with action scenes described as “fast, violent, and well-choreographed”. The show carries the torch as Arakawa’s latest work following the conclusion of the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise.

Why You Should Watch This Series

Daemons of the Shadow Realm has become one of the biggest hits on Crunchyroll in 2026. The series is brought to life by Studio BONES, the production house responsible for both Fullmetal Alchemist adaptations.

The Japanese voice cast features Kensho Ono as Yuru, Yume Miyamoto as Asa, and Yuichi Nakamura as Dera. The opening theme song is “Tobu Toki” by Vaundy. The second cour opening theme is “back shot” by Masanori Otoda.

The series appeals to fans of dark fantasy and action anime. Its world-building is detailed, and the daemon system has been developed with logical explanations that fit naturally into the power system. The show does not simply rely on bigger fights — it uses strategy, deception, and character development to keep the story unpredictable.

The series has a rating of 7.9/10 on IMDb based on viewer votes. With the first season set to have around 24 episodes, there is plenty of story left to tell.
