Hollywood star Danny Glover has shared that he has been living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years. The 79-year-old actor spoke openly about his health in a recent interview. He confirmed the diagnosis and discussed how his family is helping him through this challenging time.
Glover Discusses Alzheimer’s Diagnosis on the Today Show
Glover appeared on NBC’s Today show with Lester Holt on July 1, 2026. He revealed that doctors diagnosed him with the progressive brain disorder a few years ago. The actor explained that the disease has already started to affect his speech, movement, and memory. He remains determined to live his life fully.
“I can live with it, in a sense,” Glover told Holt. “I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing.” The actor said his family has been a great source of strength. “They’ve got my back,” he added.

Glover’s daughter, Mandisa Glover, joined him for the interview. She opened up about noticing changes in her father’s behavior starting in 2022. She shared that Glover, who usually remembers every detail about his past, began forgetting parts of familiar stories. This made her realize something was wrong.
“He’d tell you so much about his parents — and I’ve heard those stories over and over — and there would be pieces of the story missing,” Mandisa said. “I said, ‘I wonder what’s going on’.”
His daughter added that her father is “aware sometimes and then sometimes not.” She explained that Glover wanted to share his story publicly to have ownership of his life and help others facing similar challenges.

“I’m still not accepting in my mind all parts of it,” Glover said to People. “There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I’ll never forget.”
