Witch Hat Atelier Season 2 Confirmed, Crunchyroll to Stream New Episodes Globally

The magical anime Witch Hat Atelier is officially returning for a second season. The announcement came right after the first season’s final episode aired in Japan. Crunchyroll has also confirmed that it will stream the new season for audiences worldwide, excluding Asia.

Season 2 Announcement Follows Season 1 Finale

The production team for Witch Hat Atelier confirmed the second season on June 29, 2026, immediately after the broadcast of the 13th and final episode of Season 1. The first season premiered on April 6, 2026, and concluded its run on June 29, 2026, on Tokyo MX and other Japanese networks.

To mark the occasion, the original manga creator, Kamome Shirahama, created a special endcard illustration featuring Coco and the other atelier members. The announcement confirms that the story will continue past the cliffhanger ending of the first season.

Production Team and Cast to Return for New Season

The core staff from the first season is returning for Witch Hat Atelier Season 2. Ayumu Watanabe will continue as director at the animation studio BUG FILMS. Kairi Unabara remains the character designer and chief animation director, while Yuka Kitamura will compose the music once again.

The main voice cast is also expected to reprise their roles. The Japanese cast includes Rena Motomura as Coco, Natsuki Hanae as Qifrey, Hibiku Yamamura as Agott, Kurumi Haruki as Tetia, and Hika Tsukishiro as Richeh. The English dub cast includes Anjali Kunapaneni as Coco and Joshua A. Waters as Qifrey.

Story to Continue After Serpentback Cave Attack

The second season will pick up directly after the events of the Season 1 finale. The story will focus on the aftermath of the attack by the sinister Brimmed Caps on the young apprentices in Serpentback Cave. The new episodes will likely cover the Second Pentagram Exam Arc from the manga, beginning around Volume 5, Chapter 24.

The series follows Coco, a young girl who dreams of becoming a witch. She lives in a world where magic is believed to be an inborn gift, and those without it cannot cast spells. Her life changes after a tragic accident involving forbidden magic, and she is taken in by the mysterious witch Qifrey. Coco becomes his apprentice and learns the true nature of magic. The first season introduced this magical world and its dangerous secrets, setting up larger conflicts for the future.

No Release Date Yet for Witch Hat Atelier Season 2

As of July 2, 2026, there is no official release window or date for Witch Hat Atelier Season 2. The production team has only confirmed that the season is in development. Some industry projections suggest a possible debut in mid-to-late 2027 or early 2028, but this is only an estimate and not an official confirmation. Fans can catch up on Season 1 on Crunchyroll, which streams both the Japanese version with subtitles and an English dub.

The Manga’s Popularity and Awards

The original Witch Hat Atelier manga by Kamome Shirahama has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. It has received several prestigious awards, including the Harvey Award for Best Manga in 2020 and 2025, a nomination for the 2018 Taisho Manga Award, and a nomination for Best Comic at the 2019 Angoulรชme International Film Festival. The series began serialization in Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine in July 2016 and has 16 compiled volumes released in Japan so far. The first season’s success has only increased interest in the franchise.
