The popular crime drama keeps getting bigger with major additions to its next season. Dan Stevens, known for his role in Downton Abbey and recent films like Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, has officially joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. He will play a new serial killer named Owen Stark, also called the Five Borough Killer. This news comes as production starts for the upcoming episodes.

Stevens is not the only big name coming to the show. Earlier reports confirmed that Brian Cox from Succession will play another villain called the New York Ripper. Uma Thurman is also set to return as Charley, the former Special Ops officer who left New York City at the end of the first season. With these three talented actors joining Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, season two is shaping up to be very intense.

Dan Stevens Plays a Serial Killer Who Taunts the Police

The role of Owen Stark sounds like a major challenge for Dexter. According to the official announcement from Paramount+, Stevens will play the Five Borough Killer, a serial killer who enjoys playing games with law enforcement. His character is said to be similar to the real-life Zodiac Killer. He calls the police to threaten the murder of innocent people, and then he actually does it. This causes widespread fear across the city.

Dan Stevens will play “The Five Borough Killer,” a serial killer who, much like Zodiac, taunts the police with phone calls threatening the murder of innocent citizens.

This role is a new type of villain for the Dexter universe. Unlike some killers who try to hide, Stark seems to want attention. He wants to terrorize the entire city, not just his victims. For Dexter Morgan, this creates a serious problem. He usually hunts killers who are hidden. This villain is loud, public, and very smart. It will be interesting to see how Dexter tracks him down without getting caught by the police who are also hunting for this man.

Production Starts in New York City for Late 2026 Release

Fans do not have to wait too long for the new episodes. Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 started filming on April 13, 2026. The director Marcos Siega shared an update on social media, saying it was the last day of preparation before filming began. Just like the first season, the show is filming in New York City.

The expected release window for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is October 2026. This is a quick turnaround for a TV series. The first season ended in September 2025, which means the wait between seasons is just over one year. The new season will be available on Paramount+. Viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India will be able to stream it on the platform, though exact release times for each region will be confirmed closer to the date.

Other Returning Cast Members and New Villains

Michael C. Hall is back as the lead character. He is joined by Jack Alcott as Dexter’s son, Harrison, and James Remar as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s dead father who appears as a voice in his head. Brian Cox will play Don Framt, the New York Ripper. This character is described as an older serial killer who terrorized the city many years ago. He no longer kills but finds new ways to bother the survivors of his crimes.

With Dan Stevens joining as a second major villain, the season might show Dexter dealing with two threats at once. The police will be looking for the Five Borough Killer. At the same time, the ghost of the New York Ripper is still causing fear. Dexter Morgan will have to navigate these two dangerous situations while also dealing with Charley (Uma Thurman), who left the city but might still play a role in his life. The showrunner Clyde Phillips is leading the project, which has fans hoping for a tightly written story.
