The first seven minutes of Dune: Part Three have arrived, and the reaction is huge. Director Denis Villeneuve brought Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa to the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas on April 14, 2026. Together, they showed theater owners a violent, loud, and fast-paced opening scene. The footage proves that Paul Atreides has changed in a big way.

The new movie picks up 17 years after the last one. Chalamet said his character has turned into “his worst vision.” The opening scene shows a bloody battle on a rainy planet. Emperor Paul’s army, led by Stilgar, attacks with full force. The crowd at CinemaCon got to see just how dark things have gotten for the new emperor.

A Seven-Minute Scene That Left Viewers Speechless

The footage is not for the weak. It starts with a brutal war sequence that one viewer called the “most insane alien space war scene” they have ever seen. Digital creator Jenkins Peeler was in the audience. He said the sound and camera work made him feel like he was a soldier in the fight. “I honestly felt like I needed to take cover. It was that intense,” Peeler shared.

Another person in the room compared the scene to Saving Private Ryan but set in space. Critic John Rocha said after watching, “I am speechless for what is coming.” The general feeling from everyone who saw it was clear. No one is ready for how intense this movie looks.

“You have conquered the galaxy. You have destroyed thousands of worlds. I think you are way beyond redemption.” – Jason Momoa’s character to Paul Atreides

Villeneuve Changes the Style Again

Denis Villeneuve did not want to repeat himself. He explained that the first Dune movie was calm and thoughtful. The second one was a war film. For the third part, he is making a thriller. “It’s more action-packed, faster paced, and more emotional,” Villeneuve said on stage. He also called the film “more muscular” compared to the others.

The director shot some parts of Dune: Part Three on film for the first time. He kept digital cameras for the desert scenes because he likes the raw look. The story focuses on people trying to remove Paul from power. But Villeneuve said the heart of the movie is still the love between Paul and Chani, even though they are apart.

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya Say Goodbye to the Desert

For the cast, finishing this trilogy was a big deal. Chalamet told the audience that he grew up making these movies. He called working with Villeneuve “a deep honor, if not the biggest honor of my career.” The actor added that the director is simply “on another level” compared to others.

Villeneuve got emotional when talking about the end of the journey. “It was quite emotional for me to bring them back one last time in front of the camera and say farewell to Paul and Chani in the desert,” he said. The director noted that the crew became like a small family over the 10 years they spent making the three films.

Zendaya returns as Chani. The story puts her at a distance from Paul. He is now forced into a political marriage with Florence Pugh’s character, Princess Irulan. This creates a painful love triangle that drives much of the tension in the movie.

Jason Momoa Returns and Robert Pattinson Joins the Fight

Fans of Duncan Idaho will be happy. Jason Momoa is back, but not exactly as the same person. He plays a ghola named Hayt. This is a being made from the cells of the dead Duncan Idaho. Momoa explained that his new character is sent to Paul as a “gift.” It is a test to see how the emperor reacts to seeing a ghost from his past.

The movie also adds Robert Pattinson to the cast. He plays Scytale, a main villain who wants to take down Paul. Pictures from the set show Pattinson looking very different. He has almost white-blond hair, no eyebrows, and very pale skin. The character is a face-dancer, which means he can change how he looks.

Anya Taylor-Joy will also have a much bigger role this time. Returning cast members include Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, and Josh Brolin. Momoa’s real-life son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, also appears in the film after getting the part on his own.

Release Date and Theater Information

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. The release date puts it in direct competition with Avengers: Doomsday at the box office. Both are big studio movies coming out at the same time.

The film will play in IMAX theaters around the world. For viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India, the movie will open on the same date. Local listings will show exact showtimes closer to the release.

Villeneuve has promised that this movie will finish Paul’s story. He did not say if the ending is happy or sad. Given the dark tone of the first seven minutes, audiences should expect a tough and emotional end for the emperor of the galaxy.
