Dutton Ranch has officially been renewed for a second season at Paramount+. The renewal arrived on June 24, 2026, just days before the first season finale aired on July 3. The show’s record-breaking debut made the decision an easy one for the streamer.
The first season of Dutton Ranch pulled in 12.9 million global viewers during its first week. That number made it the biggest original series launch in Paramount+ history. The series also became the largest cable series premiere since 2023 when its first two episodes aired on Paramount Network on May 15.
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser return as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, the beloved couple from Yellowstone who moved to Texas for a fresh start. The first season ended with a major cliffhanger that left fans wanting more.
Paramount+ Renews Dutton Ranch for Season 2 Before Finale Airs
Paramount+ made the renewal announcement on June 24, 2026. The timing was unusual because the first season had not yet finished its run. The season 1 finale aired on July 3, meaning the renewal came nine days before the season ended.
Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+, shared her thoughts on the show’s success.
Beth and Rip are among the most iconic duos in television history and we are thrilled to bring a whole new world to life with Dutton Ranch for our subscribers around the world.
Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios, also spoke about the renewal.
Dutton Ranch has resonated with audiences in a powerful way, building on the legacy of beloved characters, while establishing its own identity. We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in Season Two.
The early renewal shows how much confidence Paramount+ has in the Yellowstone spinoff. The show proved itself as a hit right from the start.
Marshals Crossover: Will Beth and Rip Reunite With Kayce?
Both Dutton Ranch and the other Yellowstone spinoff Marshals ended their first seasons with similar cliffhangers. Dutton Ranch ended with Carter getting kidnapped by Mariano. Marshals ended with Kayce Dutton’s son Tate also being kidnapped. Both shows exist in the same universe, and both kidnappings could connect.
Cole Hauser spoke to TV Insider about working with Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton on Marshals. Hauser said he would love to see characters from Yellowstone make guest appearances.
What I will say is I’d love to work with Luke. We saw him in New York for the Upfronts, Kelly and I both, and I just love him, man. I miss him.
Kelly Reilly agreed with Hauser and shared her own feelings about a possible reunion.
I miss him too. I love people that we’ve worked with over the years in Yellowstone, but the fact that he’s on his show and we’re on this show, if there’s a way to somewhere down the road do something special where he comes and visits us or if we go to Montana, great. Go find our sons. I think Beth misses her brother, so I would love that to happen.
Dutton Ranch takes place in Rio Paloma, Texas. Tate might be taken to Texas after his kidnapping, which would make a crossover very possible. Hauser and Reilly both said they want to bring back as many Yellowstone cast members as possible.
Everett McKinney Takes a Bigger Role in Season 2
Ed Harris plays Everett McKinney, a veterinarian who becomes a close ally to Beth and Rip. The character started as a supporting role but grew more important as the first season went on.
Kelly Reilly told TV Insider that Season 2 will focus more on Everett McKinney instead of just Beth and Rip. She explained that Dutton Ranch has four lead characters.
I have said it before: they have really made our series credible. It could have easily become a somewhat melodramatic spinoff, but it is not thanks to them. We are making a drama series with top-level actors. We are very proud to work with them.
Cole Hauser also praised Ed Harris and confirmed his bigger role in Season 2. Hauser said Harris will have a “very important” role and that he looks forward to working with him more.
The show will feel less like “the Beth and Rip series” and more like an ensemble drama. Annette Bening, who plays Beulah Jackson, is also considered one of the four leads.
What Happens in Dutton Ranch Season 2?
Season 2 will pick up right after the Season 1 finale cliffhanger. Carter has been kidnapped by Mariano, and Beth and Rip must find him.
Cole Hauser revealed that the early episodes will show Rip and Beth trying to regain control. Carter does not die in the finale, but he ends up in a very dangerous situation. His future remains uncertain.
The main threat in Season 2 comes from Mariano, a powerful fixer connected to the Jackson family. Rip discovered in the finale that the 10-Petal Ranch runs a drug trafficking operation. Beth has started building a legal case against them using forged documents.
Rob-Will Jackson now runs the 10-Petal Ranch after his father’s death. The ranch enters Season 2 more unstable and more dangerous than before.
Carter’s identity also remains a key story point. Beth formally acknowledged him as family in the finale, but his choice to fully embrace the Dutton name is still open.
Behind-the-Scenes Changes: New Showrunner Takes Over
Dutton Ranch will have a new showrunner for Season 2. Chad Feehan, who created the series, was fired before the first season even premiered.
Reports say Feehan clashed with stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser on set. Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the Yellowstone universe, was also unhappy with Feehan’s work on Season 1.
Benjamin Cavell takes over as showrunner for Season 2. Cavell created Seal Team for CBS and co-created The Stand for Paramount+. He also wrote for Justified and Homeland.
Christina Alexandra Voros, a director and producer on the show, spoke about Feehan’s work.
I think Chad did an exceptional job building a world of adversaries for Rip and Beth to come up against in this new chapter of their lives.
Dutton Ranch is not the only Taylor Sheridan show to change showrunners. Lioness, Tulsa King, and Frisco King have also experienced similar shifts.
