A canceled NBC show is finding new life on the world’s biggest streaming platform. La Brea, the sci-fi drama about a massive sinkhole that pulls people into a dangerous primeval world, started streaming on Netflix on May 1, 2026. The show ran for three seasons on NBC from September 2021 to February 2024 before getting canceled. Now a whole new audience can watch all 30 episodes and meet the large cast of characters who tried to survive 10,000 BC.

The Harris Family Leads the Story

The show centers on one family torn apart by the disaster. Natalie Zea plays Eve Harris, a mother who falls into the sinkhole with her son. She quickly becomes a leader among the survivors in the prehistoric world. Her main goal is keeping her son safe and finding a way back home.

Eoin Macken plays Gavin Harris, Eve’s estranged husband. He stays on the surface in modern-day Los Angeles. But Gavin starts having strange visions that connect him to the ancient world. He works with government officials to figure out what happened and bring his family back.

Izzy stays on the surface with her father. Jack Martin plays Josh Harris, the son who falls into the sinkhole with his mother. Both actors were relatively unknown when the show started.

The Main Survivors in the Prehistoric World

Many other characters fall into the sinkhole and must learn to survive together. Chikรฉ Okonkwo plays Ty Coleman, a therapist with a medical condition. He becomes one of the most dependable members of the group and uses his skills to help others deal with trauma.

Jon Seda plays Dr. Sam Velez, a former Navy SEAL who works as a physician. His medical training proves vital for the injured survivors. His daughter Riley Velez, played by Veronica St. Clair, falls into the sinkhole with him. She becomes friends with Josh and the other younger survivors.

Important Characters on the Surface

Not every character travels back in time. Ione Skye plays Jessica Harris, Gavin’s adoptive sister. She helps Gavin deal with the government agents investigating the sinkhole. Virginie Laverdure and Toby Truslove play government operatives Dr. Sophia Nathan and Senior Agent Adam Markman who study the sinkhole and try to understand its secrets.

The Show’s Journey to Netflix

La Brea started strong with over 6.37 million viewers for its first episode. But the numbers dropped over time. Season 2 fell to 1.77 million viewers. NBC decided to end the show after three seasons due to lower ratings and high production costs.

The show received mixed reviews from critics. Season 1 earned a 29% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score across all three seasons sits at 46%.

Netflix picked up all three seasons. The complete series became available for streaming on May 1, 2026 in the United States. The show is also available on Peacock, NBC’s own streaming service.

The story begins when a huge sinkhole opens on the famous La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, near the tar pits. Hundreds of people and buildings fall into the hole. The survivors wake up in a mysterious land with ancient animals and no way to call for help. The people on the surface discover the sinkhole acts as a time portal that sends people back to 10,000 BC.

Viewers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India can now watch all three seasons on Netflix. The show found a new audience on streaming, with many viewers calling it a potential cult classic because of its over-the-top premise and fast-paced story.
