Jung Yong Hwa is returning to the romance genre in a role that flips the usual K-drama formula on its head. His new series, Oh My Guard, is set to premiere on Lifetime Korea on October 24, 2026, at 10:50 p.m. KST, and it pairs him with rising actress Hong Seung Hee in a story that mixes romance, comedy, and a touch of fantasy.
The Story Behind Uhm Tae Bong’s No-Kiss Rule
Uhm Tae Bong is a global top star known as a master of romance dramas. He has the looks, the acting skills, and the confidence that come with being one of the biggest names in the industry. There is just one problem: he refuses to film kissing scenes. The reason behind this rule is a secret he cannot share with anyone, and it is described as a fatal flaw that he keeps hidden from the public.
The mystery deepens when Oh Hae Ra, played by Hong Seung Hee, enters his life. After an accident, Hae Ra becomes convinced that she is Cha Hong Doo, the female lead in Uhm Tae Bong’s drama. She believes she has stepped into the world of the show she loves, and she takes it upon herself to protect her favorite actor. Her belief is so strong that she starts treating the people around her as characters in a drama plot.

Hong Seung Hee takes on a dual role of sorts. She plays Oh Hae Ra, a timid and easily frightened woman, but she also portrays Cha Hong Doo, the bold and fearless character that Hae Ra believes herself to be. The role asks Hong Seung Hee to switch between two very different personalities throughout the series.
Hong Seung Hee has built a strong filmography with roles in Navillera, Move to Heaven, and Just Dance. Her performance in those projects earned her recognition for emotional depth, and Oh My Guard gives her a chance to show a lighter, more comedic side.
The People Behind The Camera
The drama is co-directed by Yoon Jong Ho and Lee Seung Hoon. Yoon Jong Ho is known for directing the hit romance drama Lovely Runner, as well as A Bona Fide Killer. Lee Seung Hoon directed Doctor Shin. The script is written by Byun Sang Soon.
Produced by Syn & Studio and People Story Company, Oh My Guard has attracted international attention before its release. A+E Global Media is backing the series and has licensed it for distribution in 83 countries, with plans to bring it to audiences through the Asian streaming platform Viu.

A+E also stated that it recognized the series’ potential to combine the emotional storytelling of Korean dramas with the upbeat pace of romantic comedy and the global fandom surrounding Korean actors and K-pop stars.
Jung Yong Hwa Returns To Romance After Brain Works
Jung Yong Hwa is a well-known figure in both music and acting. As the lead singer of CNBLUE, he has built a large international following. His acting career includes roles in You’re Beautiful, Heartstrings, The Package, Sell Your Haunted House, and Brain Works.
Oh My Guard marks his return to the romance genre after several projects in other areas. The character of Uhm Tae Bong allows him to show multiple sides: the glamorous top star, the sharp-witted charmer, and the man hiding a flaw beneath his perfect exterior.
The drama is also known by alternative titles including It’s You, Out of the Blue and the Korean title Mitdokkeutdoeobsi. It will consist of 16 episodes, each running about 60 minutes.

Premiere Date And Where To Watch
Oh My Guard will premiere on October 24, 2026, on Lifetime Korea at 10:50 p.m. KST. For viewers in South Korea, the drama will air on Lifetime. International audiences in 83 countries will be able to watch it through Viu in Asia. The series has been sold for global distribution by A+E Global Media, which will also present the show at MIPCOM Cannes.
Viewers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions should check their local streaming platforms for availability. The deal with Viu covers multiple Asian markets, and additional streaming partners for other regions are expected to be announced closer to the premiere date.
The first stills of Jung Yong Hwa in character were released on September 22, showing him in a composed pose with a faint smile that hints at his character’s charm. The main posters followed on September 21, giving fans a first look at the playful dynamic between the two leads.
