A new dark action comedy is coming to theaters very soon. Over Your Dead Body puts a bloody twist on the idea of a romantic getaway. Jason Segel and Samara Weaving play a married couple who go to a remote cabin to fix their relationship. The problem is that both of them secretly plan to murder the other. Over Your Dead Body will officially release in theaters on April 24, 2026. The movie had its world premiere earlier in March at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival. Meet the Cast of This Bloody Action Comedy

What Is This Dark Comedy About?
The story follows Dan and Lisa. They go to a quiet cabin in upstate New York hoping to reconnect. But each person arrives with a secret plan to kill the other. Their traps and counter-traps start to fall apart when a group of escaped convicts shows up. Timothy Olyphant plays Pete, a serial killer who has escaped prison with his girlfriend Allegra (Juliette Lewis) and an accomplice named Todd (Keith Jardine). The intruders hide in the attic. But when Dan and Lisa start shooting at each other, the criminals fall out of hiding and take the couple hostage. The criminals then torture the couple to get money. At the same time, the killers realize that terrorizing this helpless couple is making their own relationship feel exciting again.
A Red-Band Trailer Shows the Crazy Violence
A red-band trailer for Over Your Dead Body is already online. It shows the movie’s very violent and funny tone. One clip shows Timothy Olyphant’s character preparing to push Jason Segel’s face into a moving lawnmower.
“You kill enough people, it honestly starts to get a bit boring,” Pete says as he gets ready to harm Dan. “Like in a relationship, the key is finding ways to keep things fresh.”
The trailer makes it clear that this movie does not hold back on blood or dark jokes.

Reviews from SXSW have been mostly positive. Critics praise the movie for being a fun and violent remake. One review called it “a rare remake worthy of your attention.” However, some critics say the movie has trouble balancing its tone. A review notes that the movie is “not always successful at the tonal balance it is trying to strike” but still has “enough surprises for a good night out at the movies.” Director Jorma Taccone explained that he wanted to make changes from the original Norwegian film. He focused on using different guns and creating tonal shifts to make the movie feel fresh.
Samara Weaving’s Busy Year Continues
This is the second movie for Samara Weaving in 2026. She recently starred in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Weaving is currently pregnant. She showed off her baby bump at the Los Angeles premiere of Over Your Dead Body on March 30. She wore a red dress to the event at the Vidiots theater. Her co-stars Jason Segel and Timothy Olyphant joined her on the red carpet.
