Bollywood’s 2026 release calendar is filled with major films competing for audience attention during key holiday and festive periods. The year has become notable for the number of high-profile films arriving on the same dates, with several stars preparing for direct competition at the ticket window. Some clashes are continuing to develop, while others have already shaped the release strategy for multiple films.

Aneet Padda’s Shakti Shalini May Move to 2027 to Avoid Shah Rukh Khan’s King

The Christmas weekend is a major release window in Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated film King has officially locked its release for December 24, 2026. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, features an ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and marks the theatrical debut of Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh’s daughter. Originally, the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe film Shakti Shalini, starring breakout actress Aneet Padda, was also scheduled for December 24, 2026.

Shakti Shalini is part of the popular horror-comedy universe that includes films like Stree and Munjya. Aneet Padda, who gained recognition for her performance in Saiyaara in 2025, will play dual roles in Shakti Shaliniโ€”the protector and the evil force. With both films aiming for the Christmas holiday period, a direct clash was expected.

However, recent reports indicate a change in plans. According to a report by Mid-Day, the makers of Shakti Shalini are considering moving the film’s release to early 2027. A source close to the project reportedly told the publication that the film is entering its final production stages and the team plans to spend sufficient time on visual effects.

“The idea is to finish the film properly and then spend enough time on the VFX. If everything goes as planned, they’re looking at a January 2027 release.”

The potential shift to January 2027 is viewed as a strategic decision. By avoiding a direct clash with a major star-driven spectacle like King, the team behind Shakti Shalini could potentially secure more screens and achieve a longer, more profitable theatrical run. As of now, no official confirmation has been issued by the production team, and the final release date remains unannounced.

Batwara 1947 vs Awarapan 2: Sunny Deol and Emraan Hashmi Reunite in Box Office Battle

The Independence Day weekend is another key date in the Bollywood calendar, and this year it will see a major showdown. Sunny Deol’s period drama Batwara 1947 (previously titled Lahore 1947) and Emraan Hashmi’s action drama Awarapan 2 are both set to release on August 14, 2026.

Batwara 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, tells a story set during the Partition of 1947. It stars Sunny Deol alongside Preity Zinta, marking their first film together in over two decades. The film’s first-look poster was recently unveiled by Sunny Deol, who confirmed the release date on social media with the caption: “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage.”

“In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch #Batwara1947 in theatres from 14th August 2026.”

On the same day, Awarapan 2, directed by Nitin Kakkar, will hit theatres. The film marks the return of Emraan Hashmi as Shivam, the iconic character from the 2007 cult classic Awarapan. The sequel also stars Disha Patani and was announced with a post on Instagram by Vishesh Films stating, “He came back for you. In cinemas August 14.”

This clash is notable because it represents a reunion of a box-office battle from 2007. That year, Sunny Deol’s Big Brother and Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan released on the same day. Nearly two decades later, the two actors are once again competing during a major holiday weekend, with both projects generating considerable buzz.

Other Box Office Clashes in the 2026 Calendar

Several other major films are also set to compete for audience attention throughout the year. In May, Riteish Deshmukh’s historical biopic Raja Shivaji will clash with Junaid Khan’s film Ek Din on May 1. Later in the month, on May 22, a three-way clash is expected between Ananya Panday’s film Chand Mera Dil, Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar, and Tera Yaar Hoon Main.

The summer season also sees Imtiaz Ali’s romantic drama Main Wapas Aaoonga competing with the romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, on June 12. In August, the box office is set for an intense battle. On August 15, Kartik Aaryan’s Nagjila is scheduled to clash with Salman Khan’s Matrubhumi: Me War Rest in Peace. Later in the month, on August 28, Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 will compete with Sidharth Malhotra’s One: Force of the Forest. Another highly anticipated film, Toxic starring Yash, Kiara Advani, and Nayanthara, has been scheduled for August 26, which will see it compete with One and potentially other films.
