Mariabel Refuses Alliance and Chooses Battle
The main event of episode 8 is Mariabel’s decision to reject Rimuru’s offer of peace. After Glenda gets freed from Mariabel’s control and agrees to help Rimuru, the Slime Lord tries to reason with Mariabel. He asks her to join his side and work together.
But Mariabel does not listen. She still wants to kill the “Monster King” and remove Rimuru from power. Even after her earlier plans failed, she remains committed to destroying Tempest. When Rimuru asks for an alliance, Mariabel turns the tables. She tells Rimuru to give up and obey her instead.
This refusal leads directly to a fight. Mariabel calls on Yuuki (whom she has been controlling with her Greed ability) and Gaiye to help her. She also brings in all the soldiers she has taken over using her powers. The episode ends with both sides getting ready for a major battle.
Mariabel’s Greed Ability Gets Explained
The episode gives more details about Mariabel’s special skill called Greed. This ability lets her control the greedy desires of other people. She used it on the Western Council members to make them do what she wants. She also used it on Yuuki to turn him into her puppet.
Mariabel is not from this world. She was a corrupt noble on Earth who died from old age. After being reborn in the Central World, she received the Greed skill. She and her grandfather Granville Rozzo want to bring peace to the world by taking over everything. They believe only total control can stop wars.
The title “The Groundwork of Greed” refers to Mariabel setting up her final attack. She knows she cannot beat Rimuru in a fair fight. Her only chance is to use her control powers to trap him or to overwhelm him with numbers.
Season 4 Story So Far
The first seven episodes of season 4 set up this conflict. Rimuru wanted to build a train and hold a festival. His goal was to bring humans and monsters together. But Mariabel and Granville saw Tempest as a danger to their plans for human rule.
Mariabel tried to trap Rimuru during a meeting with the Western Council. She had already controlled many council members. Rimuru figured this out after Souei captured Glenda following a fight. When Rimuru removed Mariabel’s curse from Glenda, she agreed to help him and revealed that Granville is still alive.
Yuuki, who was once an ally of Rimuru, is now under Mariabel’s control. He first appeared in the series as the leader of the Freedom Association. His fall to Greed is a major blow to Rimuru’s side.
