The popular drama series set in Chicagoโ€™s South Side is getting ready to say goodbye. Paramount+ has officially set the release date for The Chi Season 8, which will also be the showโ€™s last run. Fans who have followed the characters for seven seasons now know exactly when the final chapter begins streaming.

The eighth season of The Chi arrives on Friday, May 22, 2026, exclusively on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan. The final season will have 10 episodes, with new episodes dropping weekly every Friday. This means viewers can expect the series finale to air sometime in late July 2026.

A Look Back Before The Chi Season 8 Ends

The Chi first premiered on Showtime in January 2018. The show was created by Emmy winner Lena Waithe and follows a group of residents living in a Chicago neighborhood, where their lives become connected through both struggle and hope. Over the years, the series has built a loyal following for its honest look at life on the South Side.

The show has now become one of the longest-running dramas in Showtimeโ€™s history. It joins series like Dexter, Homeland, and Weeds, which all ran for eight seasons. Only Shameless has lasted longer, ending after 11 seasons.

Production for The Chi Season 8 began in January 2026. The show was first renewed for an eighth season back in May 2025, shortly after the Season 7 premiere. Then in October 2025, the network confirmed that the eighth season would be the last.

What to Expect from The Chi Season 8 Plot

The story picks up after the shocking Season 7 finale. That episode ended with Rashaad (Jason Weaver) and Victor (Luke James) finding Alicia (Lynn Whitfield) shot and left for dead. When police arrive, the two men walk away from the crime scene with their hands up and covered in blood.

The official description for The Chi Season 8 says the residents of the South Side face their coldest winter ever. Life or death choices must be made, and the question becomes who is actually willing to make them. Legacy, conflict, joy and pain all come together as the series builds toward its ending.

Several big questions need answers in these final 10 episodes. How does the family rebuild after losing a matriarch? Jada Washington, played by Yolonda Ross, died in the Season 7 finale after her battle with cancer. Can Bakari and Nuck keep things under control with Reg back in the picture? And in the criminal world, who actually ends up on top?

The Chi Season 8 brings back the main cast that fans have grown to love over the years. The season stars:

How to Watch The Chi Season 8

The Chi Season 8 will be available only on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan. This is the same plan that includes SHOWTIME content. Viewers in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and India can stream the show through Paramount+.

For fans who want to catch up before the final season begins, all seven previous seasons are currently available to stream on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan. This gives new viewers plenty of time to watch from the beginning before May 22.

The show started on Showtime but moved to Paramount+ when the two streaming services combined their libraries in January 2024. Each new episode will be released on Fridays, making The Chi a regular weekend watch for fans.

The teaser for The Chi Season 8 includes footage from past seasons mixed with new scenes. The narration says: “Life comes at you fast, whether you’re ready for it or not. Everything has to come to an end.” That message fits perfectly for a show that has spent eight years showing how quickly things can change on the South Side of Chicago.
