Prime Video has released the official teaser trailer for Elle, the upcoming prequel series to the beloved Legally Blonde franchise. The show will arrive on the streaming platform July 1, 2026, and has already secured a second season order ahead of its debut.

The teaser gives viewers their first look at Lexi Minetree as a teenage Elle Woods, long before she became the pink-clad Harvard law student audiences fell in love with in the 2001 original film. Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle in the movies, serves as executive producer through her production company Hello Sunshine.

The Story Takes Elle Woods Back to 1995 High School Days

The series moves away from Harvard and California. Season one follows Elle Woods during her high school years in 1995. Her family moves from Bel-Air to Seattle because of her fatherโ€˜s job. The sudden change forces Elle to adjust to a new school, make new friends, and find her place in an unfamiliar environment.

The coming-of-age story explores the experiences that shaped Elle into the confident and determined woman shown in the original films. Viewers will see her deal with tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices during this formative time in her life.

The show comes from creator Laura Kittrell, who co-showruns with Caroline Dries. Jason Moore, who directed the hit movie Pitch Perfect, helms the first two episodes.

Who Plays Young Elle Woods and Other Cast Members

Lexi Minetree takes on the lead role of a young Elle Woods. Witherspoon personally introduced Minetree after an extensive search for the right actress to step into Elleโ€™s shoes.

The main cast includes:

  • June Diane Raphael as Eva Woods, Elleโ€˜s mother
  • Tom Everett Scott as Wyatt Woods, Elleโ€™s father
  • Chandler Kinney as Kimberly
  • Jacob Moskovitz as Miles
  • Gabrielle Policano as Liz
  • Zac Looker as Dustin

Recurring cast members feature Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek in one of his final screen roles.

Some Fans Question Casting and Look of the Prequel

Following the teaser release, some Legally Blonde fans shared concerns on social media. Several viewers questioned why casting directors did not choose Reese Witherspoonโ€™s daughter Ava Phillippe for the role, noting her strong resemblance to her mother.

โ€œBut why didnโ€˜t they use Reese Witherspoonโ€™s daughterโ€ฆa literal carbon copy of her?โ€ one viewer posted on X.

Other fans criticized the trailerโ€˜s production quality. One user called the series a โ€œcash grab garbage,โ€ while another said the trailer looked โ€œcheap af.โ€ Some pointed out that the costuming and makeup did not properly reflect the 1995 setting, making the show look like it takes place in the present instead of the 1990s.

Not all reactions were negative. Many fans expressed excitement about the show, especially knowing Witherspoon remains involved behind the scenes. One viewer said they would โ€œmake this show my entire personality,โ€ while another trusted Witherspoonโ€˜s creative control to deliver a good product.

Witherspoon spoke about finding the right actress for the role, calling it โ€œone of the most gratifying experiences of my career.โ€ She believes the showโ€™s themes of kindness, authenticity, and believing in yourself will connect with both original fans and new audiences.
