The new Korean drama The Husband has started its run on KBS2 and Disney+. The show brings a mix of romance, suspense and crime that keeps viewers guessing. The series follows a man whose life falls apart when his wife gets kidnapped right after they agree to divorce.

The show stars Namkoong Min as Kang Tae-ju, a neurosurgeon and hospital director. Lee Seol plays his wife Ko Se-yun, who serves as the hospital chairwoman. Kim Dae-myung takes on the role of Noh Man-hee, the kidnapper who turns their lives upside down.

The series premiered on July 4, 2026, and has already grabbed attention with its intense storytelling.

What Happened in Episodes 1 and 2

The show opens with a flashback showing Kang Tae-ju and Ko Se-yun on their first date rock climbing. They look happy and plan a future together.

The story then moves to the present. Their marriage has turned sour. Both work at Uri Hamkke Hospital. Tae-ju serves as a well-known surgeon and director. Se-yun acts as chairwoman with strong influence from her father.

At the hospital, Tae-ju chooses to perform emergency surgery on a regular patient instead of prioritizing a VIP case. This decision creates conflict with Se-yun and her father. Tae-ju tries to fix things by preparing Se-yun’s favorite meal at home. But during dinner, they break a keepsake from their rock climbing date. The conversation turns into an argument.

Tae-ju reaches a breaking point and asks for a divorce. Se-yun rejects the idea, saying she won’t let him have what he wants.

At a celebratory event for Tae-ju’s successful clinical trial, Se-yun publicly mentions the divorce. This embarrasses him in front of others. Later that night, Tae-ju drinks with his brother and complains about his marriage. He hires a designated driver to take him home.

The next morning, that driver calls Tae-ju. He reveals he has kidnapped Se-yun. He shows Tae-ju a video of his drunken offer of 500 million won to have his wife removed. The kidnapper demands a billion-won ransom.

Tae-ju tries to gather money while avoiding police involvement. In episode 2, he wakes up after a taser attack. The situation gets worse when the kidnapper sends the incriminating video to the police, making Tae-ju the prime suspect.

Story So Far: The Mystery Deepens

The show’s writer Jung Jae-ha and directors Kim Jung-hyun and Kim Min-tae have crafted a tense thriller. The story keeps viewers asking one big question: Did Tae-ju actually order the hit on his wife, or is the video fake?

The kidnapper Noh Man-hee appears to be a tech expert. This raises the possibility that the video could be deepfaked. His true motives remain unclear.

In a shocking moment, Se-yun’s mother offered Noh Man-hee 3 billion won (about $2 million) for her daughter’s return. The offer only made him angry. He then strangled Se-yun while her loved ones watched in horror.

Noh Man-hee shows a chilling double nature. On the surface, he seems like a friendly guy who helps neighbors. He fixes computers for elderly women and smiles warmly at restaurants. But behind closed doors, he threatens people over the phone and monitors Se-yun through a screen with a menacing expression.

What to Expect in Episodes 3 and 4

Episodes 3 and 4 aired on July 11 and 12. The kidnapper continues to instruct Tae-ju to prevent harm to his wife.

Tae-ju plans an escape from police custody. He flees in a car as officers follow him. The stranger he met in the police washroom asks him to meet at a specific location by 11 PM. Tae-ju stays on the run while police track his moves.

His mother and older brother arrive at the police station. Se-yun remains in captivity. The kidnapper keeps an hourglass in her room and tells her she will die after the sand runs out. Tae-ju swears to save her, fighting against time while remaining a suspect.

Recent stills released on July 15 show Tae-ju and Se-yun celebrating their daughter’s birthday together. Surrounded by balloons, flowers and a birthday cake, they smile brightly and kiss their daughter on both cheeks. Tae-ju records the moment on his phone, showing his deep love as a father. This happy memory stands in stark contrast to their current tense conflict.
