Story Follows a Hidden Protector in a Dark City
The Kept Man of the Princess Knight is based on the light novel series by Toru Shirogane. The story takes place in the Dungeon City, a dangerous place full of crime and death. The only bright spot in this dark city is Arwin, a beautiful princess knight. She enters the dungeon with her party to find a legendary treasure that can save her fallen kingdom.
Everyone in the city looks down on Matthew. They see him as a coward who wastes Arwin’s money on drinking, gambling, and women. Nobody knows that Matthew hides his true abilities. He works in the shadows to protect Arwin from any threat.
The series has sold over 200,000 copies in total and won the Grand Prize at the 28th Dengeki Novel Awards.
Light Novel Series Achieves Major Success
The original light novel series by Toru Shirogane began publishing in February 2022 under Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko imprint. The series features illustrations by Saki Mashima. It has produced six volumes so far, with the seventh volume scheduled to ship on July 10, 2026.
A manga adaptation by Key Yan started in September 2022. Yen Press publishes the English version of the light novels. The English publisher describes the series as a story about a man who is despised by everyone but holds a secret that could change everything.
